2011 ford ranger best functional tire size?
Hello I am looking at getting new tires (Bf Goodrich all terrain ko2s) on my 2011 ford ranger xl 4cylinder 2wd. The truck is currently bone stock. I know everyone asks "what the biggest tire size they can fit is" but what I am wondering is what is the best size for me performance wise. I dont want to put on the biggest tires if it cripples my suspension capabilities. I do off road in it but not heavy mudbog type since the whole 2wd thing. Post pictures if you got em thank you!

So you think oem size tires would be the best to exchange with all terrains and perform off road well. What is the reasoning behind that just out of curiosity what makes that the size of choice over a little bit bigger or wider wheel? My wheels right now are roughly 27s

because that's what is says in the manual.
I am sure going an inch bigger could "satisfy" your need for bigger and still have no crippling effect

I have a 2010 2.3 xl reg cab stick.
I went with 30 inch all terrains, but i have leveling coils up front. In my opinion if u will keep it stock no lift i would go with 235/75/15s and dont worry about rubbing in bumps. I dont recommend 30s in stock suspension because if u get into a gas station driveway and dont slow down u might rub. Only issue with 30s in a 4 cyl is starting out from a dead spot. Also the 30 inchers definetely soak up bumps a lot better than the 225s.
My 2010 2.3 can spin the 30s no problem, its just starting out i wouldnt hammer it. Once u get moving its ok. I have a stik reg cab 2.3 with 3.73 gears.

Re: 2011 ford ranger best functional tire size?
I have 31x10.5 BFGs on my 09 2.3 XL stock suspension. They look great and ride nice, however they rub slighly on tight turns (i.e. full turns in a parking lot). They slow the truck down while getting going (just a bit) but I like the added height they give. I have 235/75/15 for my winter setup and they are better suited performance wise, but they definitely don't look as good.
Here's my truck for reference, on 31s:

With my lift coils on 31's I couldn't hit bumps very hard cause they would hit the plastic fender liner. But I do abuse my truck pretty hard.
For stock I vote 235/75/15 to actually use them and be happy.

Not going to change my suspension angles, and the 3.73s are fine. Obviously 31s will slow down the truck a wee bit, but it doesn't bother me much.

Garfield you have 3.73's? Huh.
I thought Ford used 4.10 on all the 4 bangers.

3.73 on my 2.3 5spd. I think 4.10 was for auto and/or extended cabs.
Gambler, the pic is taken with an old Sony DSLR and edited (quickly) im adobe lightroom

Re: 2011 ford ranger best functional tire size?
will have gas mileage and power issues . generally not recommended increasing tire size more than 3% and you are considering 10%? would not recommend more than 235/75/15

I didn't notice nearly a damn thing when I went from 225's to 31's.
On 35's running 4.10 gears I got 17-20 mpg.
It's a 4 Banger, your mileage can only suffer so much.

I had 30s with stock suspension and they never rubbed even off road
