If I put in 30s or 31s on my stock 15x7 rims, will my ranger still pass the safety inspection?

Stock suspension, no t-bars, I was told not to use cool spacers or I'll have to align twice a year.

Do 31s affect power with a 3.7 gearing? Is re-gearing hard? I've done steering racks and away bars...that's about as advanced a job I've done.

Thanks!

3.7 gearing ? Do you mean 3.73:1 gear ratio ?

Yes- sorry- I guess I spaced out while trying to remember the full gear ratio and just wrote 3.7 haha

i dont see why it wouldnt

Stock suspension, no t-bars, I was told not to use cool spacers or I'll have to align twice a year.

if you do lift, then go with a spindle lift, check out my build. im same year and suspension

i run 33s on stock gearing, its not as bad as you think. 31s will be fine, just remember that changing tire size will effect your speedo

Nope, don't even worry about it. Some Rangers came stock from the factory with that setup.

Oh no, coil spacers do not hurt your truck in any way, and they definitely do not "mess up" your alignment. But there are much better quality alternatives that will be more functional.

Yes, tire size goes up, power goes down. But not as bad as you think. 31's will be just fine with 3.73 gears.

Yes, re-gearing is not simple. There's a lot of precise tools and measurements that need to be taken, It's one of those things that is best left with a shop.

Whoa! I appreciate all the thorough responses here. I think i'm going to splurge and buy some 31" cooper discovery at3s. I don't have a ton of cash, but those tire reviews in snow make me feel like it'd be worth it. I'm really psyched. I'll add some coil spacers for a year or whatever if needed and upgrade to spindle lifts if/when I can. Will post before and after pics when it's don't in two weeks.

Can't go wrong with Cooper tires, and you won't need any lift for 31" tires.

New 31s fit perfectly - no rub!! And this is even with my saggy coils and leafs. I probably could have even gotten away with larger tires. Pics of before and after here:

Anyway, for those looking into whether or not the 31s will fit in their 4x2, non t-bar, Rangers.... Here's what I measured before the tire upgrade in terms of space between stock wheel and inner wheel well:

Front:
-Top of tire to fender = 5.25 inches
-Side of tire to front fender = 4.5 inches
-Inside tire to control arm = 2 inches

idk why people think 31s are a huge tire. but looks good either way, should do a spindle lift and 33s next

It's not that the 31s are huge, it's that I didn't suspect I had enough room for them. The extra 4" tall tire only intruded on the space I measured out in the wheel well by 2".

33s and spindle lift will definitely go next, however I'm a little nervous about my engine.

I have 143k miles on it. Last 1000 miles or so I've begun to notice a slight lacking in power. In the past couple months I've begun noticing the engine sounding kinda of muddled or muffled. It's not the IAC, but j suppose I should check the air intake tubing going into the engine for blockage? Filter looks fine. And I had a full tune up at 105k miles

Thanks again for the help everyone!

Looks good. What exact tire size did you go with?

Just measure the space between your tire and wheel well while your truck is parked. Keep in mind that if you upgrade to a 4" larger tire, for example, it only encroaches 2" more into your well -- the other 2" of height is below the center of the wheel. Side to side you should easily be able to add 2" both to both sides unless you're already reaallllly tight for some reason, but I doubt it. 31s aren't huge, but at least my pickup looks like it's got some truck in its blood now

I've been running 31s on my stock 2wd for a while now. They aren't huge but they make a stock truck look tough.
