Default Mt's in the sand?

I'm gonna be takin a trip to North Padre National seashore, was wonderin if my tires will be ok for the sand. The first five miles is hard packed and even cars can drive on it, but after that it's 4x4 vehicles only. The beach is basically 60 miles of untamed, uninhabited land. I've driven in some sand before but never that much, and that was when my tires were new. Right now I have some extreamly worn out mt's, 1/8" of tread or less on the center lugs. Not to sure how they will work in the soft sand, but I think they would be fine, since they wont try to dig as much. So should I try to get new tires before trip (I need them anyway) or will my current tires work fine? Any advice for wheelin in soft sand would be helpfull.

Fyi. Soft sand tire's on sand rails have paddles. Or deep treaded tires. specifically for traction in sand, and could be perceived as digging tires. There's a reason people use tires with tread in soft sand. It helps them from getting stuck, and helps with traction. Since your tires are pretty worn. Four wheel drive will be your only friend. Good luck

my MT's work great in the sand, better than my AT's did. the important thing to do is to air them down, i run 8-10 PSI in mine in the sand.

X2. Even though I'm 2wd my old km1s saved me a few times where my all terrains wouldn't. Haven't gone out to test my mtz's though.

The biggest things are good tread and low tire pressure. You need the tread to dig into the sand, your worn tires might get you by but I wouldn't bank on that. The previously mentioned tire pressure is a good one. Bring a 12V pump to air up the tires whn you are done, preferably a better one so you don't burn up the pump in the process.
