Default Power loss from installing bigger tires

I love the way bigger tires look on the rangers. The problem I have is having a 99 4X4 with the 3.slow motor and a auto tranny. It came stock with 235/75-15 on it. I replaced them with 255/70-16 on Explorer rims. The new tires are a little over 1" taller and wider then stock and a few pounds heavier. I have 4:11 gears in it and even with that small tire difference I can notice a lack in power from the new tires. I don't know how people are running 33`s on a 3.0 and are happy with them unless they want to wait 2 minutes to get up to 60 mph and never pass a car.

Let me know what you guys have noticed for performance issues with bigger tires.

Second that, gears plus supercharger plus brake upgrade solved my issues.

Logan can you tell me what you mean by doing it the right way?. Also in your build log you don't mention what motor you have. Is it a 3.0 or 4.0?.

Mike anything short of a supercharger that would help?. I noticed in your build log that you have a 4.0 huge difference between that and the 3.slow.

I would have thought that 4:11 would be enough for a 1" bigger tire but these 3.0`s are really lifeless.

Wow - Yeah, must be.

Not to familiar with the 3.0's personally.

I have seen people say they have to drop down from 5th to 3rd to just climb a hill on the highway.

Pretty much this. Im not sure how you were even happy with the 3.0 stock, but if you were and want that feeling again an option is to be overgeared and run 4.56. Im actually shocked you can feel a difference with such a small tire change, perhaps the ranger needs a tuneup or something? I've got 4.56 and 33's and its slow as you'd expect, but I never had any problems daily driving it or offroading. It wasn't fast to begin with, its been so long since I had 235's on it I have no idea how it feels vs stock anymore but DGAF because 33's...

Supercharged 4.0. He sold his truck and now drives a mach 1 mustang.

That would be the 3L. My 4.0 feels fine with 33s.

IDK about all that. I have 3.73 and auto and it runs better than that. Definitely not a hotrod but quick to get to the speed limiter at 91 mph. Maybe you need seafoamed and tuned up.

So far I have went through the tranny and drive train. New plugs/wires seafoamed engine crankcase as well as intake and fuel system. Air box mod with new filter cleaned MAF and throttle body. Did the throttle cable mod to remove slack. No leaks or lights and it purrs like a kitten.

Up to about 50 it does pretty good then after that it takes awhile to get past 60. It was not very fast stock. But with the little power it did have it sure seemed to lose more after the tire change. I know people say the 3.0 is lifeless but thins thing is way under powered for a 4x4 even with stock tires.

Something is wrong with your engine and/or the transmission is slipping.

Had the transmission gone through by two different shops. Even went into it myself. Cant say the same for the motor. Runs great but have not done a compression test on it yet. I think the 4x4 models were just too heavy for such a low power motor,
