tall narrow or medium and wide?
OK for a 2wd 4cyl and with a locker what would be the best like narrow 35s or 37 or like 33x14s my thinking is with the 4cyl the narrow tires will have less resistance to push through but will go down deeper which in turn deep mud more weight on only 2 2wd. On the other hand the wide tires will have more resistance and slow my momentum when they hit the mud but they will stay on top better than the narrow ones. So what do you guys think would be better for a 2wd 4 cyl BTW I know I have to re gear and all that

37" if you're insane enough - even with a re-gear. And you definitely want the traction over "sinking in the mud..?" So go wide.

You WILL have to regear with that kind of shoe.

With 35" and a 4 banger you'll need at least 4.56 gears, hands-down

Re: tall narrow or medium and wide?
My guess would be higher then that. Here an idea. What's your stock ratio and tire size and let's do the correct math on gears

Are you planning to just use the truck as a toy or actually driving it on the street?

Try 4.88 or 5.13 and then being he's gonna mud with it he's gonna snap axle shafts being its a 7.5 rearend

In one of his other 8 threads, he stated he is building this truck because he thinks it will be cheaper to run (fuel economy) vs his current 4.0 4x4.

Yeah and I seen that. It's not gonna happen. 2.3 are only economical when they are at stock setup. Bigger tires kill mpg and your gonna be out there beating the death out of the truck so why does gas milage matter? You need to worry about buying parts that you going to break. And maintaining the truck after you beat on it. If your planning on putting 35s on with no lift, you better grab a sawzaw and get to cutting that poor truck apart

Would be cheaper for you to find something that's 4x4 that's only a toy. And use that instead of a daily. I have a 1990 jeep cherokee 4.0 4x4. It's nothing special. 4 inch lift on 31s but it's not titled. It doesn't see the street. It's strictly a toy. If it breaks it's okay. You wanna play in mud get yourself a set of tractor tires. image-397447862.jpg image-3269819639.jpg Things will break. How you gonna get your truck you drive on the street home when you snap an axle shaft and the wheel falls off?

Re: tall narrow or medium and wide?
OK yes this will be a toy on the streets sometimes . guys run 32x11.50 with 4:10 and get around 20mpg with the 2.3l but 35x10.50 do weight a little more so 4.56 would work BTW 33x12.50 weight the same as 35x10.50 so same gear ratio for 33s will work. Also yes I will not be running that set up with 7.5 I will get an 8.8 Axel and yes it will be lifted around 6 inches. However I have been thinking about turning my current ranger into my play truck but its just a bit long for my taste... o well always can change things later on

Weight ? Does not matter. DIAMETER is why you need lower gear ratio.

Re: tall narrow or medium and wide?
Bigger tires = more weight wich is harder to turn. wide tires = more air resistance at higher speeds which make the motor strain more..a 35 inch tire that weighs 30lbs and a 35 that weighs 75lbs..guess which ones harder to turn

When you change to larger diameter tires is why you would regear to lower ratio. The weight of the tires isn't a reason to regear.
