Default Ready for tires and lift

OK, I'm finally ready to do a lift and buy new tires. Before doing so though, I wanted to ask, one more time, for your recommendations and advice.

My truck is a 2004 Ranger Edge 4X4 with the 4.0 six cylinder motor. I am currently running P245 / 75R16 109S M+S size tires. I have decided, after several FRF recommendations, to put on A/T tires with a 3" body lift. My questions......

1) What size tires should I buy that would look decent with a 3" lift, would serve a dual purpose as mainly a daily driver with some light offroading (mud) and would not require any modifications to the drivetrain, gears, etc?

2) I read another thread here on FRF about brackets that prevent the bumper from spacing away from the body. Could someone please explain this? Also, if I need these brackets do you suggest the ones sold by an FRF member?

3) Could someone decipher for me what the tire size numbers mean? Which numbers indicate height, width, etc?

I'm anxious to learn as much as possible about Ford Rangers and offroading in general. Any additional info or helpful hints will really be appreciated.

i like the look of 31 or 32 inch tires on a body lift, i just dont like the stuffed look that 33's have. any a/t tires would be fine.
the bumper brackets should be included in the body lift kit, you will need these unless you want the body of the truck 3 inches away from the bumpers. i dont know about any members selling them but there probably is.
as for tires sizes,, 245/75/16 the width of the tire is 245 mm, the height of the sidewall is 75, and the size of the wheel is 16 there are sites that you can put this information in and it will tell you how tall the tire is in inches..

not quite, 245 is the mm width of the tire. 75 is the percentage of 245 in mm that is the distance from the rim to the edge of the tire which, in this case, is 7.24 inches. 16 is the wheel size in inches.

therefore 245mm in inches is 9.65 inches wide x 2(7.24)+16 or 30.48 inches tall.

your right i wasnt thinking, 75 means it is 75 percent of 245.

you should run 32 11.5's or if you're going to run 16 inch rims still 285 75 16's. a 3 inch body lift would clear enough for those. about the bumper bracket mounts im not entirely sure, you should create a sig with specs on your truck more specifically so we can all help better.

X2 on the 33's if 32 will fit with no lift and look good 33 will have no problem on your 3" body and 33 is easier to shop for.

Here is a cool little tool to use for tire size in the future if you need it. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
