Anyone do their own alignments ? I want to learn to do them on my own. Would save sooo much money.

A special machine would be required, and I don't see how you'd recoup your initial cost.

Yea that made no sense. Once the front end is aligned correctly, should last until a part wears out or gets loose.

I don't get my alignments done by machines, they do it the old fashion way

rangers only need a 2wheel alignment.

Mine is free since I do it myself at work but customer pay is $40 for a 2wheel and $60 for a 4wheel

I have a friend that has worked in a shop most his life. His boss told him if a customer comes in and asks for a 4 wheel alignment, that's what they get charged for even if it only requires 2 wheel alignment. I asked him isn't that cheating. He said No, they look at the rear end and make sure it is in line. I laughed.

Eat your hearts out. I supplied the lower ball joints but I had a shop down here replace the ball joints and align the front end for the equivalent of $35.

A properly done alignment references the rear wheels to make sure they are pushing the vehicle down the road straight.

I have a friend that had a new car that was so far out of line if you took you hands off the wheel it changed lanes in about 1500 feet. The dealer aligned it at least four times. I told him the rear axle was not in the car square to the center line of the body. The dealer called the factory and got approval to send the car out to a frame shop. They found that the rear axle was not in the car square to the center line. They corrected the rear axle and the care drove straight down the road.

This is whey it is important to reference the rear wheels even if you only adjust the front wheels.
