Default Ford OEM F8UZ2C161AA Brake Proportioning Valve

This valve is attached to the rear brake output of the Master Cylinder and goes to the RABS Valve and out to the rear drum brakes. Attached is a picture of it. Does anyone know what is its function and how does it work?

I know exactly what you are talking about. I had a problem finding out what it was for a while back. My final conclusion was that it was a proportion valve. Since the rangers rear brakes were drums they needed less pressure unlike the fronts that needed more pressure since they are disk brakes. So with that part it limited the amount of pressure going to the rears. If you follow the ranger brake lines (at least my 98) you'll see that there is no other valve that will prevent pressure so that's how I came to my conclusion. I installed a master cylinder from an explorer that didn't have that part and added a aftermarket proportion valve when I did my rear disk brake swap

Do you need one? It splits the braking to 70% front 30% rear.

Could it be a valve that according to the weight on the bed puts more or less pressure to rear brake?

Cuz even simpler trucks here have this valve, it works according to the levelling of the bed. High bed means low load, less pressure on rear brakes. Low bed means a heavy load, thus is applied higher pressure on rear brakes
