Default 8" vs 10" wheel with 12.5 tire

Gents,

I've gone through these threads and gotten some good info on different wheel sizes with tire sizes. The wheels I want to get are 33x12.5x15, and I'm just curious what the pros and cons are about using an 8 or 10in wheel. Is one more risky that the other if I am going to start airing down off road, or one better than the other for daily driving? I understand one will stick out an inch further, just wondering if there is anything other than looks that goes into this decision.

Thanks

Not sure how I missed this one the first time. Seems to answer the question. I guess smaller the better for airing down..?

More accurately, one will stick out 2" more than the other. Generally, almost every wheel that has a 15x8 and 15x10 option, have the same backspace of 3.615-4". The extra 2" is on the outside of the wheel mount.

Generally, if you have fender flares, an 8" will be just inside those fender flares. A 10" will be just outside. A 10" will stick out from a non-flare truck about 3".

I don't suggest 10" wheels unless you're lifted by either a body lift or suspension lift. They're more problematic because the extra room they take in the fender. Sheet metal and what not. Not so much a problem on the street, but if you actually beat on the truck off road, tires goes weird ways. My all four of my fenders are pretty beat and I've got considerable tire clearance.

I've seen people warn about 10" wheels and airing down. I've had no issues airing down to 6-8psi with my 10" and 12.50's...and not exactly taking it easy.

You need to provide us with info on your truck. If you're a stock 98+ 4x4, no way would I suggest 15x10's and 33x12.50's.

1992 4WD with 4" suspension lift and add a leaf to level it out.

Thanks, I didn't realize all of the excess width went over the outside of the wheel (figured it was split inside and outside). Still trying to figure out the pros and cons of wider vs narrower rim. Lot of people talk about 8's, but for that matter what would be the con of just keeping the stock 15x7's and putting the bigger tire on it?

Thanks again, Happy Easter everyone

Nothing wrong with 15x7, I run them with 33x12.5x15.

Many choose 15x8's for the better offset for a beefier look. 15x7's just don't offer that. Plus, 15x8 wheel options are FAR more plentiful than 15x7.

So a 15x8 with 3.625" backspace and 33x12.5 would stick out past fender just a little bit?

And you CAN run a 12.5 on an 8" rim? On the website I see for the 12.5 it says for 8.5"-11" rim

Yes. Many people have done it. Don't believe everything the internet says.

Will these wheels work OK if my OEM size is 15x7 ? Is the offset enough ?

Any wheel with a 5x4.5 will work but yes that is enough back spacing
