Default DuraTrac Tires worth it?

Goodday all,

I'm buying new wheels and tires in the near future and started researching since I want to go up in size and get 32x11.50R15. I was just going to go with the ol' reliable BFGs but started looking for comparable tires and came across the DuraTracs. They look pretty crazy and from some what seem to be bias reviews are "too good to be true". I'm not a very bias consumer and give mostly anything its fair chance before deciding not to go back to it.

My truck is still on the factory Wrangler RTS tires and they held up well and haven't given me problems until now. I want to go back to the BFGs because I have had them before on my old ranger and loved how they perform. I offroad a few times a month to go hunting and the BFGs always kept me moving up the trail and not stuck in the middle of it! I miss that, since the current wranglers really lack in that aspect. They got "stuck" going slightly uphill on wet grass several times, lol.

Digging deeper I found a lot of early reviews of the duratrac with people saying they handle very sloppy on highways and corners. I don't know if they're being over critical or truthful or if GY has improved them since then, but mostly all the initial reviews of them are bad in those regards. All the most recent reviews I see are majority positive with the occasional "good-for-a-year" guy putting in his two cents because a friend of a friend said they suck.

Anyways sorry for the long post. But when I'm looking at spending $700+ on just tires I like to be confident in my decision! And since yall are a good group I'd like to see what has to be said.

Here are the side by sides for price and size (cant get duratracs in 32x11.5)

31X10.50R15C1 109Q W Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac $160/e - $764 out the door (+$88 if I get the discount tire replacement warranty)

32-1150R-15C1 113R W BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO $161/e - $768 out the door price (+$90 if I get the discount tire replacement warranty)

BFG is having a promotion currently as well for $60 off a set of 4, so it'd be -$60. I can wait out a GY deal if I decide to get them.

Thanks for any input you might have.

I had the same decision to make but ultimately went with the BFG because the duratracs cost too much. Everyone that has them loves them, but most people who have BFGs love them too. I guess its just a matter of preference of GY or BFG. I know when i got my tires, the GY were $30 more a tire for the same size

I'm halfway considering BFG M/T KM2s now. But I don't know how they'd do in the texas summer with highway use, I'll have to research it more. I heard they only last 30k or so but there are mixed reviews. A lot of folks saying the tread wears fast have them on big ass trucks (F350's, Dodge 3500's etc). Since I'd be commuting on them 6 days a week (about 400~450 miles highway a week). I found a better summer hunting spot, but to get to it I got to go through quite a bit of mud trail, it's always muddy since there is a small river going through most of the trail. With some very careful and planned driving I barely made it though with my current wranglers .. almost got stuck a few times, took me so long to go 1/2 a mile to the camp grounds because I had to drive so cautiously, lol.

They would look pretty good on the wheels I want to get (still undecided, man I'm horrible deciding lol). I've never seen them on a ranger before.

Ok if you want to know the truth i have had The duratracs On my rig for over a year. I love them I have taken them in so much mud, clay, sand, rock, and snow and mixtures of them all. They work better the the BFG M/T and A/T have wheeled with guys with them on and My tires out preformed them all. The guys I wheeled with are goin to get them next time they get tires. The only thing that the BFG's are better at is that they are a harder rubber so the tire lasts a little longer but ove all I would get them and if you wanna see them inaction I have pics on my profile check them out. As for the price $700 for a set thats high I olny paid $620 for 33X12.5X15 with the road harzard and allinment that seem allot. Try tire rack or discount tire you should get a better price. As for the handling on the road there are not bad I will agree at highway speeds they give you alittle vibration but not much, as for the turns I havnt had any issues with that. I am also not one of those guys that has only had good year tires my last set of tires were the BFG KM's and I like my duratracs way better. If you need any more info and I havnt done it I will try to go out and do it for you so you Know how they would preform. I am always liking to but my tires to the test. O as for tread wear its been over a year and I still have over 3/4 tread lest and its My DD.

heres what im runnin right now 16" ultra nomads on 265/75/16s 32" pretty much ive had them on for almost a year and i love them havent got stuck in anything here in north dakota and thats saying alot these tires are designed more for light trucks and jeeps instead of full size trucks thats why people were talking about the weird handling and if your thinking about duratracs im actually goin to be selling my rims and tires for a pretty decent price if your interested but i say go with the duratracs

id stick with the BFGs. friends of mine had both of them on their jeeps and rangers and they said that even tho the GYs had deeper tread that the BFGs were quieter and out performed the GYs by a mile lol. good luck deciding man

I have the Duratracs and absolutely love them. In the snow they continued to surprise me and impress me the more that I drove through all kinds of snow. I also seemed to have trudged through deep snow better than my friend in his Silverado with brand new
285/ 75 BFG all-terrains. I haven't really had them in any deep mud that sucks you so I can't say for sure how good they are, but just some mild trail riding with an occasional small mud hole I haven't even needed 4x4. I have put about 6-7000 miles on them since the middle of December and haven't noticed any tread wear.

The question was brought up about deep mud I have taken them in deep Georgia clay and they performed very well. I did get stuck but it was because I was sitting on my fame. But the tires dig and grip like no other tire I have had.

The 33x12.5's look seriously beefy on your truck. I would probably need a body lift to fit that size. But my 4x2 truck would hate me, lol.

just do a torsion crank and maybe some shackles like lazler did and you can fit them easy. Here he is running 32x11.50 KM2s.

Or Ill jump the border and jack his tires w/alcoas, leaving mine stacked beside his truck sitting there on stands. lol

I need to hunt down #1 bars, I dunno where I get them though.

Already have the shackles waiting to go on. Just got to wait to decide on tires so I can get all my alignment done in one stop.

The reason they look so beefy is because I put them on 15X10 rims so it gives the tire a widder look when mounted and yes they are a beffy set of tires and I love it.
