Default DC-1 Black wheels question ???

on the Dick Cepek Black wheels do you have to put the bolts around the edge of the rim? I honestly prefer the look of them not on the rim and didnt even know they werent one the rims when I got the rims ballanced on new tires. I was going to keep them off but if they are necessary i didnt know what putting them on after the rims have been ballanced will do? I have also heard people spraying a clear coat onto these wheels to help protect them. How will this hole up or affect the wheel being ballanced? Thanks everyone hopefully ill have the lift and tires on soon!

No they are not needed.

If you do ever put them on put o-rings behind the bolt to prevent it from bottoming out and cracking the clear coat.

If ya do add them later u will need to get the tires balanced again.

I would just leave them off if I were you unless you want this

You can get the new versions of them that don't have the bolts.

Has anyone come up with a good way of removing the clear without ruining the black?? I've thought of sanding it off with varying grits of paper but honestly that thought makes my fingers hurt.. Plus the wheel has machining marks under the clear and I wouldn't want to sand some of those off and not the rest..

I've thought maybe a heat gun? Lightly sanding and then applying Aircraft Remover with a brush and scraping with a plastic scraper, etc...

Any ideas guys? I'm about to tackle it as my wheels look like total arse...

Yea I am a Dick Cepek dealer and they have dropped the DC-1 all together for this main reason. DC-2 is the only one they offer in our bolt pattern.

I was told by a wheel re-finisher to just get new wheels.

I love how they handled the situation.

I had heard they discontinued the wheel because of a saturated market.. On to something bigger, better, newer, to keep customers coming back...

I bought my supplies today to fix my clear coat problems. We'll see how it goes... Fingers crossed.
