3:73 question
Ok so I have a 2.3l with 3 inch lift and 3:73 gears I know I can clear 33's but how sluggish would it be? Local folks have said it would be sluggish but not awfully bad. I have a hard time believing this? I figured 4:10 or 4:56 for 33 anyone have some input in this?

this is what I figured. I think 31's would be as high as I should go with 3:73 and my motor and regear for anything else

yea I think that 31's would be ok like I stated before but 33 would be pushing it! But I'm also on a Facebook page and some dudes are running 35's like 3:55 gears and swears that it's not to bad he has a 4.0. But if I'm going to be doing anything to my truck it will be the right way!

Re: 3:73 question
I'm running 31s with 3.73 gears and I wouldn't want any bigger tires. That gearing with the 2.3 just isn't enough to push itself out of its own way. It's not too terribly bad but when a Pruis can kick my ass off a light it means I need to re gear haha

I had 3.73 with my 31s and 2.3 auto. I swapped them for a 4.10 and it's a lot better with the 4.10. Even highway too. I can actually cruise on the highway now without my truck messing with gears all the time. I'm doing 4 inch lift with 33s and if I was keeping the 2.3 would go to 4.56. I'm swapping in a 5.0 with a l/a rearend and regearing it to 4.10. I have seen some gearsets for the 8.8 of 4.30 but never seen anyone talk about them so idk about those.

Re: 3:73 question
I had 3:73's with my 33's for a while. It was tolerable but trying to merge on the highway, especially uphill, was pretty sketchy. When trying to maintain highway speeds (65-75mph) I could only keep it in overdrive if the ground was flat or downhill. Anything involving hills was painfully slow. Around town it was ok, just spent more time in the higher rpm range.
It is do-able but re-gearing to 4:56 was night and day difference.
