That does look better. I was thinking of doing that too. I got a set of MT Classic locks w/ silver rings recently off cl w/ mud tires for $200. I was thinking they would look good w/ the rim painted a dark silver or graphite and the ring polished..... Any thoughts? I saw a taco w rims done like that & they looked good, it'll also look kind of like the dark FX4/LVL2 Alcoas... & they r sweet...

yeah the previous owner beat the crap out of it.


the brakes should just rub off the paint, like how it would rub off rust. The burning paint might smell it little bit tho.

I need to paint the stock aluminum rims on my 2005 4x4 Edge. What paint did you use on the rims?

Also, it looks like there is some sort of coating on the rim...unless its a very special paint. Did you get that all off and how?

You could try to paint them, but paint really doesn't work on aluminum, so it chip off and stuff. My rims were factory steel rims that had some gray paint on them. I just sanded the paint on the rims so the black paint would grip it better. I didn't sand the gray paint off.

For paint to stick to aluminum properly, the metal needs to be aladined (sp?) first. I can't remember exactly what it does but it is something like an acid treatment that prepares the metal. Then a zinc chromate primer has to be used before paint an be applied. I see good and bad paint jobs on aircraft parts all the time.
