Default Wildfires

I hope everyone in and around the current wildfires in California makes it thru safely. It seems like its watching a disaster come toward you in slow motion.

I didn't realize that. I guess we only hear about the major ones or the ones that pose the biggest threat?

Wildfire, like tornadoes, are natural. I feel like wildfires are much more necessary than tornadoes, correct me if I am wrong. There are certain plants that will not drop seeds and or pollinate when they are hit by really high temperature from wildfires. The new green brush keeps down the risk of a forest fire. People forget that California is mostly a desert and we are as dry as sin.
The big fires that you hear about are because the forest hasn't had a burn in a long time. All of the dried brush builds up over the years and BAM! It lights up quickly, spreads rapidly, and is hard to contain.
People who live in the hills should have a clue that they are in fire country. A lot of them are stupid and don't keep the brush clear around their homes and or try to put the fire out with a garden hose and the fire depo has to rescue those dummies.
Where I live, we have at least a small fire every year. However, we were affected by a REALLY bad burn that stretched almost 50-75 miles about 10 years ago.

Gee, sorry for the essay.

I like essays! We always hear about the fires but the news never give much more that the basics. I guess a controlled burn is out of the question?

And yes you are correct, a forest will over grow and become to dense fires will reverse that and the seed thing too
In most areas fire departments just let the fire burn and keep the houses and buildings safe

Honestly, the best news comes from the CA Natives. Don't even get my started on how I feel about the media, especially in California.
If California has the funding, we do have controlled burns. One recently, got out of hand and burned up more acreage than they anticipated. Took out some homes too. Oops.

This is how I feel about people in Tornado alley too. How can you be so surprised when you constantly hear about the mid-west being smacked by hundreds of tornadoes each year?

And don't get me started on Florida sinkholes.

You would think the folks that live in tornado alley would change how there houses are built so they would be able to take a tornado hit up to a F3 at least. Thats just my thought.

There has to be a reason why this hasn't been done. To me, for insurance purposes or even with the state, there should be an incentive for people to upgrade their homes. The idea being if the storm does less damage, people can claim less damage and safe the companies/local government moola.
