People who ignore what DNR, BLM and every other fire fighting agency nearly begs them to do in the name of preventing their house in the country from being a casualty really should go live in an apartment or a condo in a big city. :-/

That house is (was) down Twisp River Rd, west of town, the area where the three firefighters died and one of the handful of towns that was evacuated. Check the wind direction, that's why the smoke is headed your way. There was a shift early Saturday morning, although it appears to be ending as smoke is rolling back in.

Ever been to Republic? That's the next town on the verge of evacuation. Some of my favorite, prime hunting grounds are going up in smoke, part of the 500,000 or so acres burning right now.

We've had an east wind the last couple days here, that's what brought the smoke in, I've only been out to the Spokane area a few times and the last time was a number of years ago, the biggest fire in my area is the fire on Mt Adams, that's scorched about 22,000 acres as of the last report and closed about 15 miles of a really popular hiking trail.

That's ones small to moderate when compared to others. The Okanogan Complex has burned about 1,100 square miles and the North Star is at about 200 square miles. There's 640 acres in one square mile. There as so many fires out there that some have either no suppression effort whatsoever or resident and volunteers have taken it upon themselves to try to fight it. IMO, it's will be a miracle if some of these people don't end up dead. I'm fairly certain that this in part is why DNR took the unprecidented step in asking for volunteers, in the quest to put unskilled people in safe places. I'd also expect that this is why BO declared the State to be in a state of emergency.

I see the activity on this thread is a little spotty but I just moved to the tacoma/puyallup area and wanted to see if we can get a recent roll call of WA members. I'm in the small town of Fife.
