In the grand scheme of things, if you are wanting to do what I want to do or what others want to do, you really don't care about the value of the vehicle.

In older vehicles, in my state to my knowledge, if you possess both titles and have reciepts(?), you can use either VIN# for registration. I don't know the specifics like the door sticker and the dash vin and I don't even know where the frame VIN# is(lol). I think it's totally doable and passable without any title branding at all to do a cab swap. It's done all the time on older vehicles. It's done on newer vehicles too and if it's not an insurance claim, that title's still gonna be squeeky clean.

i saw a four door ranger back when i was a sign spinner. it had alaska plate on it though. it was ugly to me : / i rather have a ex-cab. just me though.

I would rather get in touch with some Mexican junk yards and get a wrecked diesel, for cheap, bring it back and put the diesel eng & trans in my Ranger,
