I often see with "Regular" tags on several older cars. For example, I noticed a 1966 Plymouth Valiant in the Wawa parking lot, This was before I had the 1985 Ranger ordinary truck. I asked why they don't consider fixing it up for shows, or Historic tags. There reply was:
"hell no!, it's a lot cheaper on gas, easy to fix, and I drive it every day!. I don't want to keep it in a garage, or drive it once in a while. It's a good running peice of metal. Cheep on insurance too..."
So, in some peoples eyes they coulden't care less, while others value the eye appealing vision of a Old Vehicle. You know, since I got this truck, I notice myself while working, or driving to and from places noticing many older vehicles in yards and such sitting there rusting and forgotten.
One day around 2000, I was driving to Philly to do a service call. I had to pee. I was on Rt55 where it's mostly woods. I got on at RT47, and started to drive about 1 mile getting on to RT55. I desided to pull off and go into the woods and pee.
While I was standing there I saw this Dark thing covered in tree branches and leaves sitting very low in the dirt... It was only about 100 foot from me so being the investigative type, I desided to have a look. It was a old rusted out Desoto. Looked into the doors, and yes, the doors actually opened. The seats were rotted away but the body and frame looks in restoring condition. Rust yes, Engine yes, everything basicly was on it, but rusting or rusted.
I wish I had a camera that day... I was there checking this car out for a bit. On my day off I tryed to locate the land owner to see whats up with it. I was more interested in the history of the vehicle being there than the vehicle itself.
I never found out whom, or how the vehicle got there, or anything about the car. But looking it over close up, a abandined, rusted out rust bucket. You gotta wounder whom owned it? Why was it there almost in the middle of the woods?. How come nothing was taken from it?. Did someone die in it?... The questions went on and on while Iwas driving to Philly.
But I suppose thats one thing that a lore of stuff like that... I have questions about my 85 ranger, that can be found out, but there are some questions that will never be answered. And, that is one of the fasinating things that I think about a old car, or in this case my ordinary 85 Ranger.
