as some of you have seen in the bs thread, I bought a new dd last week. Its a 97 ford escort sedan, 5 speed, no options other than ac and drivers door only keyless entry (goofy as hell lol). Got it pretty cheap ($1,000) and if all goes to plan, it should pay for itself in a year. I only have 2 pics from what I started with.

the awful tach that was in the car. Made the worse blind spot ever. lol

The first mods I did was remove the stupid tach and remove the aftermarket alarm. it didn't work anyways and I didn't feel like figuring out what exactly was wrong with it.



Last night I replaced shifter bushings, installed a new factory tach with built in tach, and fixed a vac. leak. ignore the inch of dust. I forgot to clean it lol



next, i dyed the factory fogs yellow, installed hids, and adjusted the bike rack.

next, ill be installing this stuff over the weekend. box 1 of 3 from rockauto.


tomorrow at noon, I will have had the car for exactly a week. ive put 400 or so miles on it so far, and averaged 35 mpgs on my first tank. Its running really rich so it should only go up from there.

I plan on keeping this thread upto date, but after next weekend I wont be doing much more to it.

you should ditch the bike rack. looks cool but is probibly killing MPG's.

Honestly I'm digging that Escort. It looks pretty cool and for $1000 you can't beat it.

If you wanna keep it white and make it even all around get some white plastidip in gallons and spray it on there! We did it with my buddy's Suburban for like $300 total.

Actually a co-worker and I talked about it today. Im going to run 3 tanks though it and get an average mpg, then remove it and see how much it changes.

never thought about it. I might do that if I am bored one weekend.

Nice looking car now just to get it off the ground

Unless you use the rack I'd trash it. My friend dumped his and gained 1-3 mpg hwy and non city. He said when it was windy the drag was noticeably worse and over 70-75 mpg

As everyone said 1, 000 is a steal. I agree you'll get more gas mileage without rack but i'm interested to see true difference.
