Talking HID Off-Road Light Upgrade! HOLY SUNRISE!

So I replaced the 130 watt H3 halogen lamps in my off road lights with 55 watt H3 HID's. HOLY CRAP. I think these things can melt snow before it even hits the ground now!

The H3 HID lamps fit right in, I just had to make a new way to secure them in place since the existing clip didn't fit over the back of the lamp. I used some creative zip ties. Everything fit back together nicely. Mounted the ballasts behind the grill. They are tied into my high beam circuit they come on automatically when I put the high beams on.

First pic: one HID and one halogen off-road light
Second pic: full HID off-road lights and headlights.
Third pic: Daylight at night!

Yep. Only place I don't have them is the fog lights.

what temp are the h3 bulbs? i have a 35w with 5000k in my projectors (h3), and they are no where near that bright. I was planning to go to 55w ballasts soon.

how does the color compare between the two? i might just stay with the 5000k bulbs if the color is about the same. i assume the orl are brighter than the headlights?

How did you wire everything up? Is there a thread about this? I would love to buy some off road lights like that and put some HIDs in. So any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

Same as any other HID. I had to make the holes in the back of the lights bigger for the larger wires to come out. The ballasts are behind the grill. They come on with the high beams.

How do they come on with the high beams? That's a lot of light! I want to get some and hook it up to a switch.

You just put a relay on the high beam circuit like you would for any other off-road light.
