Okay. My turn. I got stuck yesterday but I couldn't find the thread to post pic of truck getting stuck, but I didn't get a photo any how. I was coming around the front a flower shop after tossing the newspaper on the front walk, and as soon as I start to turn around the blind corner like I always do, the guy in his plow comes out and I step on the brake. I was in 2wd. So I tried to put it into 4 low b/c I knew 4 high wouldn't work. As I tried to back up my back end slid around (slight incline on the parking lot, lousy land designer). but my bumper slammed up against the snow bank. I couldn't get traction. Meanwhile the guy in the plow keeps on going and doesn't even offer help. Jerk!

Well some one came to flower shop in an F150. He offered to help and pulled me up the slope where I could get traction.

I called my friend later and told him what happened. These are those moments where you feel like dufus! Any hoe my friend said it would have been more funny if a Chevy pulled me out and not a Ford.

swap isnt to bad. easiest is get a manual t-case that way you skip wiring. next you need 4x4 trans or change output shaft, tailshaft housing, new driveshaft front and rear, front diff, cv's, wheel bearings, knuckles, and weld on a back support to the frame for the diff.

pretty much thats it. really not hard at all
there is little more to it than that, been there done that, and it is a pain in the, shall we say, in the posterior deriere , since on most 2wd versions, there are no holes to run the shifter through for a manual xfer, then the nightmare of the computer and the drivetrain clashing, even with a manual xfer. then the headache of doing the front end swapout is not too much fun to say the least. Then you have clearance and alignment issues with the front drive line if you can find one, or have to visit the local 4x4 shop and have it built. The list of probs goes on and on. Easier to get a rolling 4x4 chassis and build it up.
