What length shock do I need to run in the rear with 4" of lift? Would an 8" foa fit?

Re: Prerunner Enthusiast's Thread
it should fit. with the stock location, your biggest enemy is uptravel. shocks in that location, to have good uptravel (more beneficial than droop IMO) you will have to run a shorter shock and lose some downtravel.
make sure kyle sends you bushing ends for the upper part of the shock. push out the little uniball and pop in the bushing in. i would still run the uniball on the lower with proper misalignment spacers.
----------
checking interest...
brand new FOA 2.0 shocks. they started life as emulsion shocks, bought them brand new. still uninstalled, i decided i wanted resi's. so i bought new top caps and new 2.5 resis (bigger for more fluid capacity). i still havent assembled them yet but will be good to go before they sell of course. looking to get $250 for the pair.
2.0's with resis are $140 each from FOA, bigger 2.5 resi's are $25 each added to that.
perfect for someone wanting a nice 2.0 conversion..

Is there any benefit to the uniball on the bottom as opposed to bushings?

Re: Prerunner Enthusiast's Thread
stronger i guess. probably lasts longer but the lower pivots go faster either way. id keep them solely because theyre installed already on most FOAs. and if youre gonna get new shocks out back, might as well buy matching FOA's for the front right?

I don't think Kyle has bushing ends for his. And no I don't need fronts because I dont have the extra cash for the 2.0 upgrade lol. Already have shocks for the front that came with the kit

After doing more research, fox makes a stock replacement for 3" of lift, which is 16" collapsed and 26" extended. So my understanding is that is a 10" travel shock for 3" of lift. So if I'm going to have an extra 1" of lift, would that mean I need a 12" travel shock? Or stick with a 10" since they will be in the stock location and my problem will be up travel?
edit**- or is it not the actual travel number that matters, and it's the actual length of the shock? Because every shock I've looked at for 10" has different extended and collapsed lengths. I'm so confused

If your looking for something to blindly bolt in without cycling or anything, Get a 10" or 8" swayaway (these shocks are not my favorite)
Ill ask my buddy what he ran for a while, However this is a dumb idea. getting some 300 dollar shocks bolted into the stock locations isnt going to do anything for your truck.
run some bilsteins tabbed off of a cross tube and youll be just as happy.
unless im somehow missing what your actually doing?

Nope that's about right. Wasn't planning on spending that much in shocks, I found some 8" foa's for $180 total. So figured that might be a little bit better than the bilsteins for a slight increase in price

and it probably would, but idk if its worth it overall, the simplistic side of me would just get some bilsteins that will work just fine, and run it.
heres something a buddy of mine built as an alternative, those are 10" swayaway 2 tubes, but i believe he ran some foa 10" smoothies for a while before he had these. could be wrong on that tho.

That's probably what ill end up doing. Or keeping my current shocks that are for 3-4" of lift. Brandon's going to take a look at it when I get down there next week

Re: Prerunner Enthusiast's Thread
Some updates,
Got some new 33x12.5r15 bfg at's a few weeks ago from my brother at costco. Got a great deal so worth the purchase. Got to see some droop also, not bad for mt.
So far I have only done mild offroading on dry dirt and they prefrom well. Well really put them to the test in pismo soon.
Also got a set of HID's again, went with 5000k again.
Lastly had to replace the cam sync, everyone it is really simple definitely a DIY. For shits and gigs picture with no hood.
