The vinyl on the door panels on my mom's Mustang started to fall apart. So I fixed it for her.

I pulled it all the way down and taped it off and removed the factory adhesive (green stuff) and it looks like carpet underneath the green stuff.

Applied 2 coats of contact cement (15 min drying between each coat).

Then folded it back where its supposed to go.

I've done probably close to 100 of these now at the shop. shitty design by ford, but it's not just the mustangs. we are fixing escapes as well. why they chose to put foam behind the vinyl beats me. it's the same thing that causes headliners to fall.

nice work. that's just what we do.

Funny thing is, my 1980 F150 has these little vinyl trim panels on the doors that have an aluminum backing with foam in between. After 32 years, the vinyl has yet to separate from the foam, or the aluminum backing.

Where has the quality gone?
