Default rebuilding the 97

I bought this truck to do it up like my first one so.... I'm going all the way with it. (except that window banner..... not going there). I still need a bug fugger and headlight covers. If anyone has some.....

Old truck:

New truck.........

----------

Plenty more to do, just waiting on parts. Front clears, bug fugger, headlight covers, fogs, etc....

I admire that you put every effort into making it just like your old one. Must take a lot of patience.

Thanks guys. I didn't have the first one very long before the tragic event that took it and it really bummed me out. I never got to do a lot of things I wanted to do so it's kind of revenge time. I also wanted a stepside and they only had a fleetside in stock in 1997 so this build is gonna be fun. A lot of people don't get the chance to do this stuff and right the wrongs of the past so I am taking full advantage of this and enjoying every minute of it.

Did you specifically want a Flareside this time or did you just settle?

Broke my leg after only 6 months of owning it and FMC took it even though I had spent $1900 on disability insurance when I bought the truck. FML......... I was 19 and didn't know my rights.

I had a fleetside the first time, I was happy to see a stepside come around.

Once I find a bug fugger I'm done and can start replacing everything under the truck. I bought the mount and did it tonight, next is shocks.

Easiest $8 and twenty minutes I have ever spent on this truck and the difference in removing vibration and slop is immediately noticeable.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_1268wt_941

Mine was only showing some light cracking under the weight of the tranny, but the sag was obvious. The mount should sit even with the base, not sag into it. It doesn't have to be broken to be bad. Mine is permanently sagging now that it's off the truck from holding the weight all these years.

Old mount

advanced wanted like $29 for mine. i bought it and went to replace it and it was molded wrong from the factory. once the mount was in the crossmember, the bolt holes for the tranny were off about 1/3"
Its awesome to see you moddin this truck to match the your old one! good luck with the build!

I actually used your pics to form an attack plan before I went outside earlier 18 minutes flat because I studied your thread before I went out there.

Grabbed a 3/4 socket and 19mm ratcheting closed end and rolled under the truck on the dolly, popped all 4 bolts out, jacked the tranny up, swapped the mount, and dropped it back down then tightened the bolts. It was so easy I figured something HAD to go wrong, but it was gravy.

You had me worried about fittment since my mount looks identical to yours, but my $8 was well spent. It fit like a glove. For $8 how can you NOT do this, ya know? Engine mounts and shocks this weekend! These are the largest factors in ride quality and they are cheap.

$100 for all the shocks
$8 for tranny mount
$45 for engine mounts.
