Default New project: Low Rider Wagon

Started another project as if I don't already have enough irons in the fire! This is a father/daughter project. Been wanting to build a custom low rider radio flyer for a while now. Well, finally got all the stuff I need. My mom brought me a wagon she had back around Thanksgiving. Picked up some square tubing and some thick sheet metal this past weekend while back home. Only thing missing was the front suspension. Bought a prefabbed kit off ebay. So today, Madison and myself got the wagon stripped down to just the tub. Went back out after dinner and cut 80% of the tubing cut for the chassis. Just need to hit the welding supply for some gas, and wait for the front suspension to show up.

Before tear down:

Torn down and mocked up at "ride height":

Chassis laid out and ready to be welded:

Rear axle ready to be welded:

Front axle/steering:

Plans are to leave the paint alone for now, leave the frame in bare steel (for a short while). May get the frame powder coated later one. Not sure if I will paint the body later on, time will tell. Going to cut a piece of wood to sit down inside, covered in a diamond'd leopard micro fiber, with red leather buttons. Should be a pretty quick and easy build once I get my gas.

I salute you, Father, Daughter projects are great! My 16 year old daughter helped change my transmission!!! We had a blast and she will remember it for her entire life. The problem is that now she wants to build her own car....

Made it to the welding shop yesterday with minutes to spare. spent a few hours tonight getting the frame and axle supports welded up. got the mounting plates and the nuts for the axles welded on. I found out the wagon is a Hamilton, probably made in the early 50s and pretty rare. anyways, here are the pics.

body sitting on frame:

with two wheels!

I left the frame long until I get the front axle, which shipped today! I was looking at it and I think i'm gonna leave it long and build a mini tool box to go on front of the main body. I want to put a light on the front and rear, leds of course. So i'll need a spot to mount a battery etc. I think that place would be perfect.
