went to o'reilly auto parts this morning and picked up MAF sensor cleaner and Throttle body cleaner and went home and went to work. Disconnected the batter and intake hose everything to make this job easier. This shit works very dam well i must say. And after cleaning it all up and putting everything back together i took her for a ride and wow big improvement! I can't keep her under 40 now lol i have to catch my self because i was doing 47 in a 40 hahaha then went to the store and i saw the 4-door ranger there and got the info from the guy/gal. She spoke the english and said it is from mexico and it is legal to be here. So i got the camera out and asked her if i could take pics of the truck and she said go ahead lol so those will be on the bottom of this thread.

lol i love the difference also. And i used the throttle body cleaner to clean it. Came out good. And i want those headlights also! they are the one piece and have the black housing.

dam old thread lol truck looked so different from then to now.
and idk eagle about just cleaning the t.b. i cleaned all those at the same time so it could of been one or the other or all 3. but it ran way better if i remember right.

Cleaning the M.A.F. will probably yeild the best gain.


Slim to no chance that just cleaning the TB will make that much of a difference. I cleaned my throttle body, upper intake, lower intake manifolds when I had my motor apart, should have cleaned the IAC and MAF while I was at it, but I was more concerned about getting everything back together.



Ranger_EDGE - Since you are here anyway, would you mind telling me what kind of idle problem the truck(s) had before cleaning the MAF?

it was hesitating when taking off if i remember right. dads ranger was idling funny so was my bros. we had to adjust my dads ranger to idle down when we cleaned all his parts. it made it run so much better. my truck felt like it idle way better and ran better. plus i got more fuel mileage.

So you basically just spray any residue off the MAF or do you need to avoid anything when cleaning it? It's going to be one of my next mini-projects since my truck, when rolling (I notice after going down my road at 55, then going to neutral and coasting, the motor will surge, well, actually, the RPM drops and then picks right back up. Drops and picks right back up... Over and over till I slow down to almost a complete stop.)

My truck is weird.
