I picked up a set of 99 Ranger 16x7 rims to use as my winter rims. I got a really good price because they were ugly really ugly because the plastic coating they used back then peels and flakes really badly...

I cleaned them up gently using a brass wire wheel on a drill for the worse spots and then sanding.

After that Duplicolor graphite wheel paint. It's an etching paint so no primer and it is great stuff to work with. http://www.duplicolor.com/products/wheelCoating/
I cleaned the rim before painting with grease and wax remover http://www.duplicolor.com/products/greaseWaxRemover/ and a tack cloth.

I considered black but went gun metal / dark gray because while I really like black alloy rims up close I find all the detail of the rims disappear at any distance and you can't tell the diff between a nice alloy or tons of black rims on the road here because of the steelies so many people are running

Then Duplicolor wheel clear

I'm really happy with the results and how they look on the truck. I get quite a few comments on them which is cool for what started out as rims in really bad shape.

Thanks for the compliments Now only question I have is if I'm going to paint my stock rims... they're in mint condition but I'm thinking I might not like the bright shine when they go back on the truck

Terry if you want a Mazda like mine you'll have to visit Canada the US never got the 2010 Mazda trucks

Tspoon be sure to post up pics when you paint

Ranger101 what paint did you use? Any prep?

I bought them already painted so I don't know what the guy did to prep them. When I repainted/touched them up, I just washed them really well with hot water and dish soap and scrubbed them really well. Then just sprayed them.
