Re: Rangers With Camper Shells/Topper Thread
Yea, me too. Marine Corps Infantry here, I got out in 05 so never got to sleep in a structure overseas. I never found mud, sand, or camel shit all that uncomfirtable. I get the shivers just thinking about sleeping in small enclosed vehicles though.

Lol well lets face it up north we worry more about wild life then someone packing heat. Here some cheap drawing but im far from an artist and its not done. But it would be 8ft long ish and go up and down with linear actuators. A "slide out" for kitchenette on this side and storage on the others, they will be accessible from the inside also. I keep changing some stuff in my head so im sure it will change quite a bit.

Re: Rangers With Camper Shells/Topper Thread
I know what you mean. On a backpacking hunt in alaska a while back I woke up on 2 occasions with brownies snuffling around. Once in maine my dog woke me up when a blackie was a foot away from my feet. Fwiw I sleep with a holster on my waist and a surefire flashlight around my neck. I'm still more worried about people. I've come across more potfarms, methsheds, and thugs at trailheads then bears and mountain lions (in az)
But I find staying away from trails and keeping a clean camp are the best solutions to animals or people

Re: Rangers With Camper Shells/Topper Thread
True that but I realized a long time ago that my back sucks and I rather be able to enjoy my stay in the wood that way plus I enjoy building things.

maybe get a ford ranger(color matched) Remove everything except box and cut the frame 2 feet in front of the box and weld on hitch. And boom. Maybe a 7 foot bed off an older single cab.
----------
I'll draft up some drawings here for ya
----------
It'd be nice. Quad in one truck bed. Or Both with toppers. One with bed. Other with gear and Kitchenette.

I agree it's tight but I seem to do ok with it. I'm 6' 170lbs and only 23 so I can maneuver around pretty well.

totally disagree. I've been on extensive backpacking trips, multi night canoe trips, etc. and truck camping is still my favorite. It's not always about a challenge or "roughing it", sometimes it's just about getting outside and getting away from everything.

If your looking for inspiration on this stuff, check out expeditionportal.com That's where I get a lot of my inspiration and direction in learning new info. My build thread is pretty well focused around a camping rig.
