Re: Rangers With Camper Shells/Topper Thread
Have any of you guys done any type of gas mileage comparison before and after adding a topper? I know there is the added weight which common sense tells me could hurt things but you are also making the truck more aerodynamic with it on. I've done some research on a hypermilling forum and there are some guys there claiming up to a 3 mpg gain by adding a topper. I'm not saying that would be a normal amount but I would imagine if you drove mostly highway, gaining 1 or 2 mpg would not be out of the question.

I noticed a bit better. I put it on in winter since gas seems to go faster for some reason in winter

That is a combination of the cooler temps and the winter blend they switch to in the colder months. Glad to hear the topper helps to offset some of that though.

I know tonneau covers do nothing for mileage because of Mythbusters proved it. But IMO caps help with it.

Yeah, I've heard that about mythbusters as well but there are individuals that will say otherwise. I think there are too many factors to try to come up with a definite answer.

I've had both a tonneau cover and now a cap. I have to say the cap is so much better. More room for activities lol

Haha, I'd imagine. I've only owned open bed trucks but am considering getting a topper when I get my new truck. We shall see.
