I guess it all depends on how heavy a load you carry. Would I want to carry 600 lbs up there? Maybe not. But that would be more about concern for the shell than the rack.

I sometimes carry plywood and or 2x6 lumber 10 or 12 ft long and that isn't easy with my 6 ft bed! I think I will have to look into a custom rack made of metal tubing that sits directly on the bed rail where the topper is bolted on. It then forms a cage around the topper to support the rack which extends over the cab. I've seen these on the street so I know someone makes them!

Future mods: roof rack to carry a kayak or two
not sure about others - maybe some exhaust mods that won't mess with Cali emissions.

It's not a zombie truck until you put cages over the windows and strap shovels to the roof and ...Oh wait...

Quick question for you guys:
I finally found a stepside cap but his came off an extended cab and mines not, but it should still fit right? His ranger was a 99 and mines a 98. Oh also he has a sliding rear window on the cap and I don't on my truck, any issue? Thanks for the help

no problem at all. As long as bed length matches. and the sliding rear window is nothing to worry about.
