yea i know how that goes. had a rack like that on my last SUV and the gas milage blew. so i never used the rack unless i needed too.

Have you all tried using a fairings with the rack?

i had some on my rack, it helped, but i still had a significant drop in mpgs.

that may be the route i take, quick disconnects on my wiring for the lights and leave it off until i go to a meet or camp. i'll cut my commute in half mid october, so i may keep it on after that.

I had a lot less noise and made my mpgs go back up when I had bike on the rack. I have a extra Yakima one I could sell you if you want to try it?
