Default new guy - my 02 ranger

Whats up guys? Well I've been lurkin' for a while to get information and finally decided to pull the trigger on this ranger. It's a 2002 Ranger XLT stepside w/ the 4.0L v6 and it's 4x4. Had it about a week and its been very fun to drive and it's a nice change from a civic. Only things I've done so far is replace the wind shield wipers and replaced a burnt out fog light, I'm sure thats all going to change after going through the "how-to's". I know that I am for sure going to paint the honeycomb grille and maybe front and back bumpers to match.

So what do you guys think? Any thing else as far as cheap mods to make it stand out a little more? I have to replace the air filter and I'm planning on cleaning the MAF (I saw that in the how to's", lol). I was thinking maybe take off the mud flaps and the step, but I'm not sure if I would like the look. Thanks for looking!

PS- sorry for the crappy pic

i have the steps and the flaps still on my truck. my thought is since you're gonna keep it stock height, like me, you don't need your truck to appear taller. So there's no real reason to take them off. And on a side note, My job is a porter at a car dealership. I work in a washbay and i wash cars all day. And with all the cars, we gotta spray shit on the back fender and scrub it with a sponge to get all the tar and shit off. Since we have mud flaps, we don't get any tar or mud or anything on the back fender there. So for that reason, i'll never buy a vehicle and not put mud flaps on it.

Lose the mud flaps and depends if you use the running boards or not.

So I went to go take off the mud flaps today and I got the three screws out but I got stuck on the little plastic grommets. I eventually got them out but once the grommets come out there is just holes in the side, and I don't know if I just want to leave them there or not, opinions? At the moment the flaps are back on.

Thanks guys for the complements, tomorrow I'm am going to start on my first mod - painting the grill black. I know to use krylon fusion but do you guys recomend stain black or flat black? and how many cans will I need for just the grille?

I'd use a flat black and 1 can should be plenty for the grill

You can pickup new replacement grommets at the auto parts store. I found them at NAPA. Needed some for my hood insulation. They had all sizes.

I'll check that out thanks.

I just got done painting the grill and I can say that it came out great! It looks worlds better then the nasty faded grey. Thanks to everyone who started the thread on it, it really provided great info.

it looks shiny but its flat black so. and sorry for the shitty pic in my garage.
