93 Ranger STX 4x4 Project Log
Picked up a 1993 ford ranger stx supercab 4.0l 4x4 last december and it has been love ever since. Trying to mod the thing the best I can a little at time.
Here is a pic of what it looked like when i got it. (minus the tool box and tie downs.)
Looks a lot different now. (pics soon)
What Ive done since I bought it:
-Bought plastic tool box (wanted diamond plate but bank account was low
-Tie down hooks
-Removed vinyls and replaced with more suttle stx 4x4 stickers
-Replaced leaky power stearing gear.
-replaced driver side ball joint
-Painted fender flares black
-Painted grill black
-New tires (temporary, not bad for $100 though)
-Permanent gps mount
What I want to do soon:
-Add grill/brush guard (getting one tomorrow)
-3" body lift
-Paint bumper black
-Buy some black wheels w/ big tires
-Add nerf bars
-Add 06+ emblems
-hardwire gps in
-replace axle buschings and passenger side ball joints
-replace brakes
-replace tranny (hopefully later than sooner)
What do ya guys think? any suggestions.
Will post current picks as soon as possible.
thanks

Re: 93 Ranger STX 4x4 Project Log
Not a bad start. If I were you i'd sell that plastic tool box on craigslist and then pick up a used diamond plate tool box off craigslist as well. They can be found for cheap on there.
I'm also not a fan of the grill guard.
Take off those mud flaps.
Get the windows tinted.
Just a few suggestions.

thanks,
the thing is super clean. interior is perfect inside minus one tear on the drivers seat that i stitched up and the handle to move the drivers seat was broken off when i bought it but got it welded back on. carpets are pretty much stain free thanks to my little hand held shampoor. body is great considering its 18 years old. few nicks here and there but never been wrecked.
only bad thing is the miles are high and the tranny is a little rough but as of now i definitely plan on replacing the tranny/block when the time comes. wanna hang on to this thing as long as i can.

Re: 93 Ranger STX 4x4 Project Log
VERY different! looks nice!!! I always hated those gay purple STX side decals. My suggestions for a perfect gen 3:
1)lose the plastic toolbox
2)lose those black strip things down the sides, they are messing up your body lines
3)trade/buy some different wheels (my suggestions are some black 15x8 soft 8s; you can get them cheap, i had them on my gen 3 except in chrome)
4)beefier tires like some BFG A/ts or something.
5)tint.
After these 5 changes, the truck will look SICKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

Re: 93 Ranger STX 4x4 Project Log
Those all some good suggestions which should definitely happen in the near future. Just gotta do one project at a time because im poor college student
Does the molding/black strips just come right off? like is it held on with an adhesive? im guessing i could just pry it off with a flat head screw driver and a little patience.
but yeah tint will probably happen, as well a a diamond plate box, and some sick wheels/tires after i get a body lift on it.

NOOOOOO against the screwdriver!!! just heat up the stuff with a blowdryer or heat gun and then take fishing line and slide it in behind it. I "dont think" it is held in with plastic tabs on the old trucks. I have never seen the strips like that on a ranger. only like the ones i have whice ARE held on with adhesive:
these are the only kind of strips i have ever seen on a Ranger.
As far as the wheels go, anything will do other than those. Those are my least favorite out of all the Ranger/explorer wheels. Heck if anything, go find some different factory stock Ranger wheels like tear drops or anything but those
After you remover yours, just take and get the sticky stuff off and then buff and wax

Ill take that into consideration. Your ranger looks pretty nice aswell!
Noticed you got the pioneer 6x8's in your truck. I have 4 of those with a pioneer deck in my ranger that i installed myself. I must say they are pretty nice speakers, my truck bumps pretty good for not having sub. I like the price of them too, paid like $50 total for open box ones on ebay
