well, i was thinking about rain. Since the only close off is the factory opening, its always sucking thru the snorkle. I pulled mine out, I think I will drill some holes in the bottom

This is neat! I'm getting ready to do my truck tomorrow and I think I will use this! What would the result be if you just ran the snorkel intake full time? If its 3" tubing it's more than enough to accommodate a ranger intake...

Also how does the gate work?

You forgot to take into account friction loss throughout the tubing. Fluid Mechanics 101.

I haven't ran it thru the snorkel by itself very much but I don't notice a drop in power. I'm also not cruising down the highway though either. It is only 2". 3" will not fit running it that way without moving some stuff.

The gate works by opening and closing it haha. It is just a handle you push and pull to open or close it.

Ok that gate is a sweet idea and I like that! Might do that to mine but I'm not sure, I'm running 3" but found out I can't run it into my cowl without running PVC all over my engine so I'm going out of the fender but it's going great!

Pooleo or eBay. I searched 3" gate valve I think and it popped up.

Thought home depot or lowes would have something for me but neither did and the guy at lowes was rude! Called a couple plumbing supplies and found a black one. Worked out well and the snorkel is put together and working quite well!
