Default New Ride.....

I got myself a new-to-me ride this week since I sold my '05 Ranger.

I picked up a '96 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Club Cab. What makes this nicer than my Ranger is it is paid for.

The only thing wrong with it is the common rust on the bottom of the drivers door and the rear bumper where it was pushed into the bed.

The transmission was rebuilt about 50,000 miles ago by a VERY well known shop in my area. They put a nice shift kit in it and added a large external transmission cooler. It shifts hard and runs good.

I had to put new tires on it as well, so I went with a 265/75/16 BFG All-Terrain.

Specs:
- 1996 Dodge Ram Club Cab SLT Laramie
- 4x4
- 5.9L (360 cu.in.) V8
- Automatic Transmission

Carpet is getting replace by a vinal mat. I despise carpet in a truck.

Like I said above, the transmission is solid.

Looks OK for a Dodge I guess LOL cant beat zero dollars a month. Was it a flood truck? I would be worried about that rust and the seat brackets look like they are rusting too. You said thats common for that body dodge but i have never really noticed any that have it like that.

According to CarFax it wasn't flooded. It has a clear title.

A lot of the 2nd generation Dodge trucks around here have the door rust. I looked at 4-5 of them with the door rust and the surface rust on the seat brackets.

had a 96 dodge 2500 360w/5spd 4x4. Couldn't stop that beast! After 4 years of beating on it and paying through the nose to fuel it i finally gave it to my cousin who wound up killing it via drunk driving. I really miss that truck. The one thing I had a problem with especially running big tires on it is the steering box failed a couple times on me, needed a seal at the bottom where the pitman arm bolted. Other than that it was very very reliable. Wish you were closer I got two doors in mint shape sitting in my garage. Mine had the door problems too... Watch out for those automatics they have a tendency to fail if pushed hard. The external cooler will help BIG time so you should be in the clear! Congrats on your new to you ride. I am willing to bet most guys here are not mopar fans but like anything with wheels they have their ups and downs.

Nice model.

But i'd make sure to take care of the rust asap. There's a lot of it in the engine bay, and the seat brackets should never be that rusted, i'd do a complete checkup for the floor and even the frame. If there's a bedliner, i'd check under that too (couldn't see on the pics).

Yea I think the steering box on mine will need some attention soon.

I don't plan on running big tires on it. The 266/75 is a stock sizing option.

The transmission has a pretty good shift kit in it. It doesn't shift softly like my step-dads '96 5.9 does (his was rebuilt also). It shift pretty firm.

I am going to add a gauge pillar to it as well and put a transmission temp gauge in there. I want to make sure that it is staying cool.
