This is a local guy's island truck. F250 (I think) 4X4, solid axels, locking hubs, winch, lifted (?), thing looks like it would go through anything. Except the island is pretty flat, and other than a couple fire lanes and flat rock old quarry roads there really isn't much to test it here.

I described this as a highboy on imgur, and someone commented they'd never heard of a stock pickup called that. I thought it described the body/cab style...

At the complete opposite end of the spectrum is this, Chinese Kei car.

The logo, I believe the company I called Toyopet (Toyota, GM, the Chinese government and possibly Renault/Nissan joint venture) looks like the Star Fleet communicators on Star Trek.

On the more manly side of things, a WWII DKW.

A Korea era (?) ambulance. I'm guessing from the M*A*S*H episodes I saw, but it could also be WWII.

A "German" WWII vehicle. Looks like it might have been something cobbled together by the Afrika Korp. Until you see all the English words (gasoline, battery, etc.)

A prewar Dodge wrecker. The yellow boom near the "German" vehicle would have been on the back of this.

A Mercedes Bens Moog (I believe they're called), modern German military surplus truck.

An old army truck and trailer.

Blue and white military truck, possibly an Air Force response vehicle.

Finally we end up back in the US of A, with a couple 1938 Oldsmobile.

Research is an amazing skill. You should try it some time.

http://www.blueovaltrucks.com/resources/highboy.htm

BTW, that truck is a 78-79 model year truck, so definitely not a highboy.

cool truck but not a dodge or a wrecker. also not prewar. that's a late 1940's international KB series truck ( the "B" designates the chrome grille ), and appears to have been a stake body. prewar IH trucks i believe do not have the headlamps integrated in the fenders.

either way looks like it's in fantastic shape, i could use most of that for the '49 KB1 panel truck my father has. thanks for sharing

Nickname for 1977.5 & earlier 4WD F-250's.

EDIT: Guess there is a bit more than just year (found via research ): http://www.blueovaltrucks.com/resources/highboy.htm

"The term 'Highboy' was more of a nickname that came about when Ford switched to a negative arch leaf spring for the 1977.5 model, making it 4-inches lower than the 1977 model.

For a Ford truck to be considered a 'Highboy', it should meet the following criteria:

- 1967-1977.5 Ford F-250 4x4
- Divorced Transfer Case (Not attached to the transmission)
- A Highboy will have (3) driveshafts
- The front spring pack will have a noticeable arch (1977.5 and later are flat)
- Rear springs are 2-1/4" wide. 1977.5 and later non-Highboy's will have 3-inch wide rear leafs.

Front axle choices in the Highboy were either the 8-lug Dana 44 or the low pinion Dana 60.

Engine choices were either the 6-cylinder or 360 2 bbl V-8. Steering was either manual or power ram assist.

F-150's built during that time are NOT considered a 'Highboy'. The F-250's built from 1977.5 and later are referred to as a 'Lowboy' because they sit lower than the 1977."
