Default Fixing My Hitch

well my hitch has been bent up for about three years so i decided to fix it. i dont have access to a torch to heat it up so i took it to my old high school where my sister goes and she is taking a welding class so i had her do it for me. here is what it looked like before.

here is what she got accomplished today. its not bad but its better then what it was and pretty close to the best it will get.

im going to buy some spray paint today and painting it tomorrow before i put it back on

does your hitch hang down a couple inches from your bumper or did you mod it so it doesnt look like you have a bl?

if it was me, i'd make my 2nd coat more glossyier... if that's even a word. it's just too flat for me. but hell, it looks good.

Nice job. If it were me, I would have painted it with POR-15. I think you can get it in a satin finish. That way, you wouldn't have to deal with rust in the future.
Also, a tip for those who buy POR-15. Save some glass jars...either canning jars or spaghetti sauce jars. When you open the can of POR-15, pour it into the glass jars (if you don't plan on using all the POR-15 for your project). When you go to put the lid on, take clear kitchen plastic wrap a couple layers thick, place over opening of the jar, then put the lid on.
Why?...Glad you asked... If you keep it in the can and put the lid back on after using, the POR-15 will SEAL the lid to the can, making it next to impossible to remove. I've had POR-15 in 2 jars for 2 years, and the lid comes right off, and the paint is still in excellent shape.
Oh, one more thing... wear some rubber gloves when using the POR-15, cause it doesn't wash off. It has to wear off (Takes about a month)
