When I bought my ranger the lid was smashed to pieces, completely unusable. I looked for weeks in junk yards and couldn't find anything better, so I bought $12 in parts from SCRAP / Home Depot and built my own.

Parts Used:

• Unused Sweater Front - $2.00
• Oak Moulding - $3.00
• 1/16" Galvanized Flashing - $0.50
• Used Memory Foam - $0.50
• Unused Couch Cloth Sample - $0.25
• Wood Glue - $0
• Liquid Nails - $3.39
• 6mm Staples - $2.39
• Fabric Glue - $0

Awesome kids sweater front


Oak frame cut & glued together


Oak frame shaped to fit console, A notch was cut out to fit around the hinge, Galvanized flashing was cut out, and the metal was notched, folded and angled to attach to the existing hinge.


I forgot to take a picture of the foam I shaped, but the next step was stapling on the couch fabric and stapling down the sweater fabric, then cutting to fit and applying seam sealer to the fabric edges. The last step was gluing on the latch from the old lid.


This is the finished product!

The zipper has stayed out of my way so far. If it becomes a problem I can always take out my nippers and cut the pull off.
