Default Bit of Snow wheeling before the season ends

Headed up to my buddies cabin in Grand Lake, Colorado this past weekend. Grand Lake is the deepest natural lake in the state of Colorado.

My buddy warned us that the dirt road up to his cabin hadn't been plowed since December, so we came prepared with shovels, tire chains, tow straps and a winch.

I was the first to hit the fresh "trail" at around midnight Friday night after a 2.5 hour commute from Denver. I got about 90% of the way and got stuck. After some digging I managed to back down to the bottom. Then my buddy in his 02 stock Suburban gave it a go. He has studded snow tires, rear tire chains and a limited slip. He managed to make it all the way up (with some help from my original tracks of course).

I tried again but unfortunately got stuck yet again...truck got pulled into a small ditch and I had to have him winch me out. Chevy 1, Ranger 0.

However I got the last laugh on Sunday when the Chevy broke...sheared a power steering shaft in the pump and had to be towed home.

I slept in the bed of my truck both nights since the small 26x26 foot cabin was full with people...I like my privacy. Fri night was around 11 degrees and Sat night got down to -2.

Here are a couple pics

Lots of help from friends when I got stuck...

Im in the orange...

I'm surprised u got stuck, the snow doesn't look that deep compared to your tire height. Was it icy underneath the snow?

Duratracs performed well.

The snow was a combo of ice, hard packed snow that took alot of force to break through, and powder. The hard packed snow was the problem

Nope, no OBA and the closest gas station is about 30 miles away.

Gotcha might be worth having a cheap 12v compressor on hand. The difference is night and day.

The small mv50 works well and I have a cheap smittybuilt that works fine and doesn't take up much space.
