Default Disapointing

Well yesterday was a disapointment.

Between flat tires and dead batteries, i got nothing done!. Apparently the sunroof in the Bonneville had a slow leak and filled the backseat bucket up with water. That is also where the battery is stored in those cars. The water froze solid with the battery incased in it. Thawed it out and the battery is toast. The other battery i had needs to be charged and i just can't win with it.

Its been raining/freezing rain and snowing for a week now. No one wants to boost and the garage here are on holiday staff and they can't even charge a battery!!!!!! WTF?

I'm so tired of rain and snow!!!!!!

Default The Driver & the Project 5.0? part VII

So i broke down and bought a battery charger from a friend. 15 mins on the charger and the battery for my donor Ranger was ready to go. Put it in and on the first flick she fired right up.

Too bad on the first try i couldn't get the Ranger into the garage.

The icy snow had turned my garage ramp into a skihill, and there was no way i could get her in. So, i had to get out my come-alongs and help her out.

Shes in there garage now, snug as a bug, waiting to be torn apart. Thank go my flat tire/dead battery woes are over and i can get back to it. I tell you, it's never the procedure that fails... ...it's always the bulls**t in between.

Heres some pics: (and yes, the donor Ranger does look to be in good shape, however, the frame is in a terrible mess )

So there it is. My xmas eve and Xmas afternoon laid out for me. Today i dismantle the pretty red one and lift the motor. Then drop it into the black one.
Wish me luck. Stay tuned.

Default The Driver & the Project 5.0? part VIII

So after a long afternoon, the motor is out.

I pulled the engine/trans with all attachments and fan, through the doghouse, without removing the rad support. Its not too bad with a twist, lol. Front up, twist the trans tail to one side. Then lift again front up like your reeling in a fish. I got a few dings the rad support and slight rash on my fanblades, but nothing serious. Now its hanging. The miserable part I left out, because others may not face this: Because of the height of my garage, I had to flatten my front tires to get the deepest part of the oilpan to clear the inner wheelhouse. Then physically ( and carefully) lift the trans tail up and swing it around and out. Fun!

So heres some pics:

As you can see I've got the trans tail on the bench, other wise it swings down. Thats about just where I need it to swing it back over into the black truck. Now I gotta get the red one out and the black one back in! Then put flat tires on the front, and insert motor... so easy. Lol. But, I'm taking the fan off for reinstall, flushing the oil, New filter for full synthetic oil when its ready. New plugs, wires and sensor cleaning.

I'm tired though, and its Christmas Eve! Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to all!

Default Rims?

So i was doing some photoshop this fine Christmas morning. When i refinish a set of my rims to be put back on, i was thinking about painting the inner trims/lips black like this:

I had to photoshop it because i couldn't find any pics of any like this around. Has anyone ever done this to thier rims before? And if so, do you have any pics? Preferably with a raised white letter tire?

Thanks!
Merry Christmas

I like it, the black makes them pop more, for stock rims.

Default The Driver & the Project 5.0? part IX

So I've been busy as most people are this last week, but managed to get the engine dropped in today. I've had family down for the holidays, and that put things on hold. Christmas was great. Very memorable for me as it was my daughter's first. She got spoiled rotten.

It was -25 on boxing day when I pulled the red ranger out and pulled black one in. It was so cold that my hands stuck to anything metal. Including wrenches!

Then after my family left, yesterday, I spent my afternoon heating one manifold stud, and drilling another. But I got em out. This morning I woke up and started first thing after my pot of coffee and got er in. Just have to plumb the rad and tighten the downpipes.

And here are a couple pictures of the mangled rad support. Thats from pulling entire engine/trans with fans and pulleys. Lol

Tomorrow morning I'll get it started. I'm sidelined doing computer work I do as a side business right now. Stay tuned!

Default The Driver & the Project 5.0 part X

So i fired up the Ranger today. After it got its initial fuel, it fired right up.
Heres a clip
http://youtu.be/lJZgbVkZxic

Need to run all the coolant and top up the transmission fluids yet. But thats for tomorrow morning. I did enough for today. I still have a few days left to my vacation yet. What i still have to do:

Change drivers spring shackle
*clean and reprime/seal frame where rustcheck has worn
Change wiper motor
Change seats
Red box install
Red bumper install

Heres what i have done so far

For some damn reason i can't get the bumper to fit right. I can get it close, but one side is pinching. I ried adjusting it a bit, but couldn't quite get it. I might have to shim it out in the future when i rebuild again. Because i'm just getting this on the road quick, but come spring when the Bonneville is back as the daily driver, i'll be doing a much nicer overhaul.

Here's the pinched bumper:

I'll shim it for now, or not, who knows. I gotta get this road ready.

I'm also planning on swapping some interior pieces from the 2004 shortwheelbase. They upgraded thier seats and look much nicer in dark graphite. The seats in mine (the black one) are plain cloth like the first picture. The seats in the red one are like the second picture. MUCH nicer.

And thats it for me for now!

Stay tuned as it gets more multicolored before a spray can winter paintjob. Two tone: Flat Black on Gloss Black.

Stay Tuned!

Default The Driver & the Project 5.0? part XI

Another Sunday.

Its been uneventful. A cold snap has come in, with a blizzard and shut down everything. The cold alone has stopped any truck progress. Without any heat in my shop, its unbearable. Tomorrow I pick up some Mercon V tranny fluid and finally get it moved. The way I picked up the engine, all fluid from trans was lost. Save for what was in the converter, it needs all that I lost. The garage down here tried to tell me to use Mopar d/m atf. Lucky I read it first, and found out it was only Merc III spec.

They so crazy down here. Lol. Between that and not being capable of charging a a battery... I think the new management is failing. Soon time to change service garages.

So today it was above 0 so I thought I might try to paint my front clip/grey two tone. Mind you, this is quick hide paint for the season. Will be redone in the future. Even still, it was too cold. I pushed the application recommendations too far, lol. It was far below the recommended 15-30 degree temperature. It will have to be sanded and redone. I hate winter. So. Freaking. Much!

So heres a peek of the outcome.

I also couldn't resist giving the wheels a quick sand and rough paint. Lol.
Again, more work to come. Today was a wasted effort.
Gloss Black/polished aluminum wheel stage 1.

And the seats I pulled out of the red shorty. I thought, and they look graphite in this picture, but they are black. I love it! Need to be cleaned.

Anyways. Tomorrow I get it moving. I'll take some pics of it in the snow! Lol. Its supposed to be milder this week, so hopefully I can get more done.
Stay tuned!

Default The Driver & the Project 5.0? part XII

So it's Saturday. I took the Edge on its test drive today

I woke up this morning with a few things to do. My list was pretty short, so it was exciting. I knew today would be the day i'd be takin er for a rip.

My list:

-Check exhaust and tighten/check o2 sensors. -check, 3 new o2 sensors.
-Check vacuum lines and hoses, tighten if needed. -check.
-Check fuel system and reconnect filltube, fill with gas. -check.
-Check fluid levels and top up motor/trans/p.s./antifreeze. -check.
-Install/tighten wheels & bolts where needed. check.

She fired up. Badly.

I couldn't figure it out for the life of me so i went and recheck emissions and vacuum systems. Checked the sensors, and replaced almost all of them, then i remembered something...

When i pulled this motor, i accidentally knocked two wires off the motor and placed them where they seemed to fit temporarily till i could check them on install. I never checked them on install. I had a two cylinder misfire . Shit. So i changed the wires, flicked the switch and she purred like a 3.0 liter kitten.

I backed it out of the garage and down into my slippery ice driveway. Lol. Alot of spinning the tires later, i got it down into the driveway to sit and check everything out with it running.

The first thing i noticed is i had no windshield wipers. And it was raining....lol. Long story short, after changing wiper motors, and still having no wipers... it was a fuse. I changed and cursed in the rain changing wiper motors and it was a fuse!! Why didn't i check all the fuses before i left the garage??! lol

Slapped the temporary sticker on it and took er for a rip. Drove great and i wound it through its powerband and all gears. No problems, and response was excellent. Even got to go squeely squirrel on the wet pavement once or so.

Anyways here she is. Feelin alive.

Phoebe needs to get driving around, so for now, she's gonna have to be ugly for a bit.

I am searching for a stepside box now. This box has rotten sides, but a great bed.

Now the Bonneville goes into the garage for TLC and repairs for it's inspection. Then the Bonneville becomes daily driver again, and the Ranger becomes my toy like I intended!!!

Other than a little bit of air in the rad to work out tomorrow, truck is running great!
Stay tuned!

Lol, found these free promo glasses at a jobsite. They are soooo cheap, like kids spy glasses. I love it. They are now my one year old girls toy...

I rocked em ALL day on Friday at work for a few laughs, lol

Yeah, i look like crap... long work hours + long work hours at home + sleepless nights with a baby = one worn out mofo.
