Is this worth 4,ooo?
Hi, I am new to this and have been wanting to get a lifted ford ranger for awhile. This guy is selling a 93 ford ranger for 4000, dont know if its a steal, or what. I dont really know anything about the value of a lifted ranger. It has 140,000 miles. What do you guys think?
Heres the add http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/ctd/2061609967.html

Re: Is this worth 4,ooo?
Yeah that truck has been on cl here in portland FOREVER. Willing to bet somethings wrong because it went from 5500 down to the current 3999.
And I agree 17 years....just because its clean doesn't mean its in great shape haha.

Re: Is this worth 4,ooo?
Yeah I have personally noticed its been on craigslist for 4-5 weeks. So I think I could hassle him down to 3500. I know that just because it looks clean doesnt mean it actually is a good truck. Im just saying it probably is a nice good running truck. Either way, im going to go with my dad and hes a mechanic. He deals with the brand new chevs and even diesel equipment used for construction. So he knows his stuff pretty well. I dont think it would hurt to check it out.

Re: Is this worth 4,ooo?
I keep looking at the puddle underneath the trans/t-case area in the first and fifth photos. Might not have come from the truck, but it might indicate a potential huge PITA for you. I've been on little dealership lots like that and seen cars leaking coolant, oil, ATF, whatever, right onto the ground. They don't care. Once they can get you off their lot in the truck, it's your problem. That's their goal. And to make money doing it. I will never buy from a dealership again.
With the economy the way it is now, there are so many good deals to be had from owners who've been laid off, need to cut back expenses, etc. Not saying it's cool to take advantage of that to take someone's truck for a fraction of its value; I'm just saying the best deals are with private sellers, IMO.
And yeah, $4,000 is too much. It's probably got a ton of miles on it, the tires aren't great, it's an automatic...I think 2500-3000 would be more reasonable.

Re: Is this worth 4,ooo?
I noticed the puddle under the transmission / transfer case also. One would also think that they would at least replace the broken tail light on the driver's side. I don't know about where you live, but that wouldn't pass an inspection around here.

Re: Is this worth 4,ooo?
WOW, the window sticker says $4,990!
That truck is not worth 4k. Hell id sell you mine for 4k!
This is what I am looking at.
1) it has the old interior. Dislike
2) the tires are not that great of shape.
3) it is an automatic and probably has the a4ld
4) that puddle looks very fresh to me
If this truck was on the 95+ interior, had a manual, tires were good. It might be worth it. But only if this truck needed nothing. Ball Joints, Tie-Rods, Shocks, Brakes, etc...

Re: Is this worth 4,ooo?
naaah, I totally agree. Didnt even notice the tires and the puddle of fluid. Like I said though, my dad is a mechanic and he will know exactly whats wrong with it. Hes a pretty dang good hassler too. Do you think 3500 is still way too high? or even 3000? Cause thats the best looking ranger I have seen in the portland area.
