I'm shopping around for a new work truck I found this on craigslist

I messaged the guy he said It started running rough a couple days ago and that he heard some knocking in the engine. he said he also took it by a mechanic and that the mechanic believes the piston rings are done and the lifter pin is also, i wouldn't mind working on the truck, just wondering if it would be worth the time and money.

So consider the engine garbage. A reman engine will probably run you about 1,000 plus your time to swap it. So now your up to 1,500. If it has no rust issues and a clean title I'd say it's definitely worth it. 1,500 is still way below blue book.

ok cool, and do you think for someone who has never swapped an engine before this will be incredibly hard?

I'm assuming it's a 2.3L which is a pretty easy to work on. If you have access to the proper tools it shouldn't be too hard. I'd get a good service manual and do some research before you start.

It's probably the 2.5, not that it makes much difference.
