Body is not that bad, a little rust that needs taken care of.

What is the interior and engine like? That's where it really matters. If it's all flawless, I can understand the pricing, but if it is torn up and messy like I would expect it to be, I'd be thinking more in the $1,200 - $1,500 range.

That's a good deal ... the engine alone is worth $1000. The grille is cracked, so you might be able to get it for $2800

Just realize that autotragic 4 banger won't be able to get out of it's own way. I had a '95 2.3 5 speed and it was downright dangerous trying to merge on the highway. I hadit when Ohio's top speed limit was 65, be especially worse now, with the 70 and 75 MPH speed limits...

And I drove several VW buses back in the day. They were actually easier to merge since people didn't expect them to accelerate.

Also, this is an XL trim level, so might not be more than a cloth bench and a heater.

So this 2.3 is totally different than the 90s 2.3. Also I have no problems getting up to speed with my 2.5. Its no hot rod but I can get up to speed quick enough where its not a problem.
