No worries. I'm just trying to get back what I have into it.

Actually, the owner at the yard where I got it from is trying to source a replacement 3.0L for me, so I may be able to keep it.

Good luck on finding a 3.0 for a good price local. I called for the hell of it the other day and the place quoted me $1100for a used 3.0!

I talked to a person at Cantleys salvage when I was looking for a motor. He told me he had a 3.0 from a taurus that would work for the the cheep price of 200.00 dollars and the motor had only 75,000 miles on it. I ask why the motor from a taurus was so much cheeper tha a 3.0 from a ranger. He said that the taurus motors had a bad flaw of over heating, something about the way the casting is on the blocks are made. I don't know how true it is, but I also herd the same thing from a friend of mine that is a certified machanic. He has seen plenty of over heated 3.0 from front wheel drive fords.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I did see a ~ 65k mile 3.0 on Craigslist for about $200 so I know they are around.

"Bergzo" Maybe the guy was quoting you an installed price, or the price for a core 3.0L with a refresh? $1,100 is pretty far out there otherwise!

Oh, and for the purpose of this listing: I am into this truck for $1,100 so that would be my bottom end on the price. I have it listed on the local CL for $1,450 with some wiggle room. If I continue to get no serious interest or trade opportunities, then I'll look into swapping in a good motor...

----------

Just to touch on the overheating issue: I haven't heard of this myself, but I'm not familiar with the Taurus at all.

If the 3.0L was designed for RWD configuration, maybe there was an unknown hot spot or something that Ford didn't know about when putting it into FWD position with electric fan for cooling?

Or, I think it's more likely that people just see these cars as an appliance and run them into the ground with little care to keep on top of the fluids & maintenance until things become a problem...

that's about what I was thinking, I can't see ford using 2 separate castings for the exact same engine being used in different applications.... I would imagine it would more be a complete lack of maintaince, same thing that kills them in rangers.

like I said before, if you decide to swap the engine out and can't find a good motor at that time, I know where there is one just over the state line that I can attest to it being a good running well maintained donor, fairly cheap.

I've got the truck for sale up on various local forums, etc.

I'm into it for $1K and would really like to break even. So I'm just asking that at this point.

I am located in Green Brook, NJ 08812. The truck does run and drive.

Here's a few pictures, I can post more detailed pictures on request.

That's alotta money for a "Roller" IMO.

Wouldn't waste my time on a 3.0L, get ya a 98-01 Expo 5.0L donor, EVERYTHING SWAPS from them to a 98up 4x4 Ranger and keep it!

I've had little serious interest locally (understandable I suppose).

Price is down to $850 FIRM. I have a running 3.0L lined up for it (great price) and if it doesn't sell in the next week I am going to keep it and swap the motor.

I appreciate some of the replies. If I were to do a motor swap I would really want to put in a 2.3 Turbo, but at this point I either need to sell it or get it useable and keep it.
