can somebody help explain my suspension options.
Hi,
I am trying to figure out what my options are for stiffening up my rear end leaf springs. I am builind a living space in the back of my truck and I am now seeing a difference in how much my truck squats. I have a completely stock 2005 xlt 4wd. I have heard of add a leaf but I have heard good and bad and wonder what the correct way to do this would be. Sorry if their is any spelling mistakes I am still getting used to communicating with my thumbs.

So I just calculated the rough weight of everything in the back of my truck so far and I am at 302.64lbs. My leaf springs are completely straight and the truck is definitely lower in the back end, I am not to sure if this changes anything but I thought I should make a note of it.
//End
Thanks,
Ollie

Re: can somebody help explain my suspension options.
Bastard pack is a retarded way of lifting the rear.
It involves combining leaf springs to make taller stiffer ones.

Re: can somebody help explain my suspension options.
It seems your springs have sagged. Mine did too, probably from age & carrying many heavy loads of wood. I bought new leafs from ATS Springs, but there are lots of vendors out there. My photos, P/N details, etc. are posted at http://imgur.com/a/WpQR8
The new springs are more perky & sit a couple inches higher & feel a bit more firm, which I like.
FYI, the final appearance with new leaf-springs is seen in the VERY LAST photo of this album: http://imgur.com/a/CKVUo
I happened to replace my leaf hangers & shackles at the same time, but you won't need to. Un-bolt your leaf springs & U-bolts, and then install new ones, which would take 1/2 afternoon (for noobie). Total of just 6 bolts per side. No special tools, just box wrenches & jack stands. The springs came with eye-bushings already in place, so it was a simple bolt-in job.
Regular-Duty (43-781) were OK, but I bought these Heavy-Duty (43-781HD) leafs: http://www.autoandtrucksprings.com/p...HD-1283-0.html

Re: can somebody help explain my suspension options.
Thanks for the info!
I went ahead and bastard packed them purely because I plan on keeping some big weight in the rear and didn't want to lose any ride height! This is only a temp fix until I end up buying new leafs that are extremely heavy duty as I picked up expo leafs for $20!
Thanks!
