Default Rancho RS5000 PArt # RS5229

2000 Ford ranger XLT super cab 2WD 3.0 V6 Flex Fuel

I'm in the process of replacing my front shocks. The old one is off but the new rancho doesn't seem to fit. The bracket on the shock is to small for the two lower mounting bolts. I've gone to a few different websites and the all say that they should fit. I cant figure out why they wont work. Any suggestions? They old shocks had c shaped brackets to fit over the bolts and the new ones have just regular holes.

Do you have torsion bars?

If not, those won't work...

The application notes for part #RS5229 say the following for a 2002 2wd setup:

Quote:
With torsion bar front suspension including Edge
AKA - It won't work with a coil spring front suspension. These are the shocks for either a 4wd or 2wd torsion bar setup truck only.

Hmm Advance Auto parts doesnt seem to give me the option between 2WD and 4WD for my vehicle. Maybe that is it.

Yeah, the shocks needed for a 4x4 or 2wd torsion bar setup is different than the 2wd coil spring setup.

I went to Summit Racing & 4 Wheel Parts and they both say that part # won't work with your truck if it has the coil spring front.

On rancho's site it tells you if they're 4wd drive shocks or not.

Sent from my iPhone 5 so I can tell you to search wherever I may be

It's not a matter of 4wd versus 2wd - but one of torsion bars versus coil springs.

The torsion bar 2wd's use the same shocks as torsion bar 4wd's which is different from all of the coil spring shocks.

So the determining factor is whether he had torsion bars or coil springs not simply 4wd or 2wd.
