Default Front shock. Cant get top bolt off. How do you do it

3.0 2002 ranger single cab. 2 nuts on bottom came right off. Top one has the bolt as part of the shock and a nut. I turn the nut, it turns but does not move. I put vise scripts on the bolt cause it was turning with the nut. THe nut still will not move up or the bolt will still not move down. HOW DO I GET THIS TOP NUT OFF> on my chevy that i bagged, the nut just came right off and the shock slid off . Please help, I have the truck in the air right now...........

I always use about 5 feet or so of extentions, and pry it back and forth till it breaks

When I changed my shocks everytime I tried to loosen the top nut part of the shock would turn with it. So I just used a pipewrench to hold the shock firm while loosening the bolt.

Deep socket on top.....1/2 inch drive.....put on ratchet and bend back and forth till it breaks off.......that always worked for me as a last resort. They also sell a special socket the shape of the shock bolt end that you can put on to hold it while you crank off the nut by hand.....doesn't always work though.

Or....Sawz All......HAH!

Why would you have to break it off. The nut spins. My 02 gmc i bagged the nut came right off. Its not as if its hard to turn, its turns fine, just wont loosen. What gives. Not sure if having to break the bolt off is the correct again. Not doubting you but there has to be a way to get the bolt off.

you have to hold the bolt and undo the nut, soak it in pb blaster or wd-40 or something, probably just rusted in. If you have a torch heat it up.

just use vice grips or even a small pipe wrench and just keep messing with it
