I was just driving home and I started hearing a weird clunking noise. First I thought it was the bearing but it seemed to be more on bumps. I got home and parked it got out and bounced my car up and down with my own weight and it did the same clunk. can anyone help me out

check your front stabilzer bar end links i had one break caused a clunk on bumps just like you have might be a posibility

I got my car rustproofed last week. Thinking back the last time I got my truck rustproofed I heard a clunking too. I figured it was just the cold cause it was the beginning of the winter. Don't know how it can be in anyway related but has anyone heard anything about that

The three big culprits are ball joints, tie rod ends, and sway bar links. Any one goes bad, and it'll clunk away.

Is a tie rod end the parts on the steering bar that goes across the front end? Please excuse my ignorance I'm still learning . On my truck , those greasable bushing on the ends of that bar are shot to hell, maby that's where some of my noise is coming from

My mechanic thinks it was the tensioner for my A/C.

the 'outer' tie rods attach at the steering knuckle (front of spindle/hub) while the 'inner' tie rods attach to the rack/pinion (if equiped) or the 'steering box', as i've heard it called (if equipped).

Mine was clunking too. I replaced the sway bar end links and it fixed mine maybe try that

double lifted 3 inch body and 3 inch spindles. Running 32/11.50/15 bfg Km2s.

Rear end clunk, check the leaf spring and shock mounts/brackets.

Front clunk, check the ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, and shocks. (if everything but shocks checks out fine, it is probably the shocks in the front end.)

Oh and check your radiator core support mounts in the front as well.. I had a broken one in the past clunking on me too.

I found the problem lol. I already posted what it was. The a/c unit put a lot of torque on the engine so there's a tensioner that controls the tension of the belt. As it ages it can loosen and bangs around when the a/c unit is on.

I have some front end noise 'clunking' at low speeds particularly approaching junctions, driveways etc (i.e. when other noise is reduced)- shocks seem okay. How do I check ball joints, tie rod ends and sway bar links properly- visually they seem intact and in good shape to the untrained eye. Is this a DIY-able repair and how would I go about it - are there any specialist tools involved? Thanks for any help & advice!

- it's a youtube video of a guy checking ball joints...tie rod ends can be checked in a similar way.

sway bar links too, the are not ball/sockets, but if there is slack it will make noise...
