Default Squeak location help! shock? Ball joint?

My 2000 Ranger suddenly started squeaking in the right front....especially when driving slow as in the driveway. If I push down on it and bounce it a little there is the loud squeak...BUT I cannot tell for sure if it is the shock, a bushing, or a ball joint. Is there a better trick to test to make sure? I would hate to spend money and my time on shocks if it is the ball joint, or vice versa. I have had worn ball joints before on my F150 and though the steering got sloppy it never made any noise. The steering feels tight on the Ranger.

Sure is a lot of rust under there.

Mine started today, now that the weather is drying out. Judging by the many searches I have done, it's more than likely ball joints. Everyone here seems to favor Moog replacements. I guess I'll me doing that in the next month or so along with the T-bar crank. That way I only go to the alignment shop once. I'm going to grease them with a needle in hopes they can hang in there another month.

I have a 99 Ranger 3.0 and my truck started the same squeak on the right side a couple weeks ago. Did you figure out what the fix was? I was thinking about replacing the front shocks because I figure the stock shocks are shot at this point anyways but I want to eliminate the squeak also if possible. My truck squeaks if I push on front right front fender also if I turn steering wheel back and forth but always on right side not left. Any ideas? Thanks

easy way to test is to remove the shock. two bolts and probly 5 minutes.
next (if it's not the shocks), get some silicone lube & spray the bushings one at a time until you rule them out.
Next (if not shocks or bushings) IF the ball joint boot is torn, insert lube of you choice to see if that quells the squeak.

yeah, if you're keeping the truck for a while, put moogs bjs in. do you know how to tell if bjs need replacing?

here, i got this for you - shows you what to look at...

Just sprayed everything with silicone spray and no more squeak. My boots are hammered on my BJ's so that's the next thing I'm putting cash aside for. Looks like Moog all the way. i plan on having her a while longer.

Me too. Squeaks drive me nuts. I will seek for days to find a squeak in a dash. What's bad about the PNW is that it rains for 8 months. While things are wet, no squeaks. But when it dries..... They are everywhere!

I'm new to this site and being a Ford Ranger owner. I bought a 2003 XLT extended cab, 4X4, 5 speed manual trans, 4.0 V6 with 118K miles on it about a month ago. Seemed very clean in and out, clean car fax, feels solid and all of the consumer reviews were glowing. Nonetheless, about a week ago, I got the "squeak" everyone is referring to (mine's in the left front), I know the truck needs some work here and there (rear pinion seal and probably U-joint), but I love this little beast. I did spray evrything I know of that could be the problem with WD-40...still there though. Hard to tell where it is coming from! I'm going to put new shock on this weekend anyhow as it looks like they've never been replaced.

Gotta tell all on this site, I'm proud to own this truck and wonder why I haven't owned one before now. Glad to be in the forum too! Love the truck: Sonic blue on black wheels, tinted windows...sharp!
