Default Wheel bearing??? 2WD

I've got a problem identifying a bad wheel bearing. There was a grinding noise when I was making sharp right turns only. The metal-on-metal sound seemed to be a function of side load not the degree of turn and it came from the drivers side pretty distinctly. My first thought was the outer left wheel bearing and I talked to a couple of other experienced mechanics who were pretty sure that was right. I got the whole hub assembly apart and cleaned up and it looks fine. The bearing and race seem to check out ok. Any ideas on what it could be?

look again at the bearing. with the wheel in the air can you rock the tire at all, odds are you will be able to due to a worn bearing
