Angry Brand new BROKEN Rancho9000's?

I just got my Rancho9000's in the mail and installed the rear ones no problem. I am doing the front now, and when I twisted the shaft to get the arm to extend, nothing happened. I was able to pull it out but there is no give or take in the brand new front shock. Is this normal? This cannot be normal....BOTH front struts are the same, but how can they dampen shock without any movement.

Please tell me they are supposed to be like this.....

you probably have them adjusted so stiff that you cant move them by hand.

I had them on the lowest setting....it just took about 30 minutes to work them out. But now the lower holes do not line up!

The rancho's have close holes for the buttom bolts to run through. The kyb g-2's have open ends for various sizes. My bolts are about 2 3/4 in apart and the rancho holes are only 2 1/2....wtf!?! it isnt lining up

I would personally call the company and see if there's anything that you're missing..also, go through the directions again and read them carefully

This is fcn ridiculous! I have seriously wasted hours of my life. The bolt bottoms are 2 3/4 inches apart. I called rancho and they said that there Ford specs say they are 2 1/2 in apart. No big deal, guys said I can cut out the holes and it wont void the warranty. Now the MFr's STILL wont go in. The bottom plate on the rancho is straight, while the KYB G2's is angled......

Has anyone else installed these POS on there truck? This is absolutely ridiculous.....what a waste of my fn time!

That bottom mount should rotate in the poly bushing--it will turn hard, but it will eventually turn enough to get the angle right. Maybe shoot some PB or WD40 on the bushing.

I finally got them in yesterday, and I must say I am very disappointed. Why is it that cheap KYB G-2's go in easy, and these expensive rancho's are a complete pain? I am still playing with the gas settings, but I am not amazed by this product. I have used Monroe Spectra, KYB G-2's, and Rancho 9000's, and I must say, I do not personally think they are worth all the hype. I am going to call the manufacturer back and find out what the recommended settings are; I have tried both 3 and 5. Big difference between the settings, but I still do not think they are worth the $$$ IMO.

Thanks for the help guys....

I have never had any problems at all with ranchos. Sorry you have had a bad experience because they are outstanding shocks.

I never had any problems whatsoever installing my 9000s. I've been very happy with them so far.

x2, along with others I know of have had no problems at all. Also at work people have them installed on a pretty regular basis with ease??

idk maybe you just got a bad set, happens to everyone and every company at some point. I know that doesn't make you feel any better but for the most part I've heard no complaints from the owners about them, and I myself like them alot as well.

Hope it works out.

Thanks guys....I have been playing with the setting and I guess I over exaggerated how bad the shocks are. It just really pissed me off that the measurements were a 1/4in off and the manufacturer told me I needed to fabricate their product.

I do not have a wide variety of tools, so using a hacksaw was not a preferred method of mine. It was just a bad day yesterday, and I vented on the forums =P

I am sure we have all been there were a 2hr tops job takes 4 hrs and you just want to murder someone!!! On the bright side, I will be able to help out anyone else on the forums with this install if they need my assistance.

Could you have been compressing them upside down? Happened to me before, sometimes shocks don't work upside down. What'd you have to do to get them to fit

I was not compressing them upside down. The back two worked just fine, and as your supposed to....I worked them in and out 5-10 times a piece. The front ones however, would not budge! I had to push them in, then pull them out multiple times. Finally, they started operating the way they were supposed to. It was just a pain because the front were a lot more stiff then the back.

In order to install the front two, I had to cut out the manufacturer holes. Basically, they started out as holes for the bolts to slide into; when I was done cutting them out, they were u-shaped with the 'U' facing outboard from the shock. I can post pictures if you need me to.

I had originally thought that maybe the mounting bolts were bent or something, but that was not the case. For whatever reason, there was some misunderstanding between Ford and Rancho.

Just a thought on you fitment issues Alex--are the lower control arms on your truck original FoMoCo or aftermarket? If they're an off-brand aftermarket unit-something other that Moog, Raybestos, etc.-, that may be the root of the problem.
Glad you got them on. Give them some time-you'll love them.
